i do not see the problem. the insides of that store with either a fake
or real tin cieling, the shelves, man it screams general store to me.
the simple design of the original building, added additions later on.

overall, i agree that is the right building that housed a store for
    many years.

edited to add: the coin auction can kiss my butt for that price.
  • Pass.

    73k+, wow! What a great deal. . . image
  • Wasn't someone asking recently how to get "dealer stock" to break into the coin dealer business?? Looks like a good starter pack to me!!

If the money part wasn't there, I would LOVE to go through something like that.
Even at face or bullion value, I would like it.

But, getting above that, it is just a dream to do....I would take weeks to go through it all, given the chance.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    Hmmmm....

I believe that the sign on the "store" was done in Photoshop and that the commem pictured was wizzed.
I don't trust this one, esp with that price. Just my opinion.

What fun I would have if the family asked me to inventory the coins in the collection (assuming the coins pictured are in fact the collection).

Interesting also the buy it now price. Would not you think that they would come up with an even number, like say $70,000.00?

I was going to bid, and then I saw this:

Boxes, Crate, Tins, etc. do not go with the collection

No deal! I really wanted that Prince Albert can ... just so I could do the old phone prank, but for real.

All I see is a lot of very carefully arranged coins on top, oh so carefully arranged to look random, and to imply that the giant mountain of wheaties underneath is richer than it is.

"....and TONS of EXPENSIVE TYPE COINS!"

What's the matter with you guys? Even just ONE ton of expensive type coins would get your money back in a heartbeat and here it is in black and white (ok, black and blue) so it should be a SLAM DUNK.

Why if I had the money....no better not say that...ahem.... well if I had the inclination....

  • Likely bought a huge lot from someone like collecctorsintenet.com (20,000 mixed coins for just under $20k) put a fake story around them, and offer for 4x almost, knowing some sucker will offer 40k thinking it a lowball bid and win...
Coins will be problem coins mostly, with a host of minor issues making them worthless (for the BU ones) and well worn common dates on the others, with 15,000 being wheeties...

I always love how people tell you exactly what is in an "unsearched" lot. They can guarantee you will get this, this and this...."BUT I didn't even allow my great great aunt to touch the outside of the crate...."
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • Curiousity got the better of me on this one... so I asked the seller if he had an estimate on how many wheat cents were in this lot:

    Seller's first response:
"As for copper % of the lot - somewhere in the 50% range at most. Thanks for your interest."

    Seller's second response:
"Sorry - please discard that last estimate of the % of copper in the 20,000+ coin lot - upon further inspection - there seems to be more in the range of 40% copper at most (not 50% as in our initial estimate). Please consider in your offer if you make one, Thanks"

So lets say that the wheat population is 50%, if you pay 5 cents per wheatie (my guess on an average for a bulk lot purchase right now) that means you pay a little over 7.25 per silver or other type coin - including buffalos! I'm thinking thats a little steep... it would be a lot of fun to go through though!
First get the knowledge, then the coins.

It's very convenient since it saves having to check and separate the
coins that the quarters end at 1930 and the half dollars at 1947. It
might just be coincidence that all the customers just switched over to
    using half dollars in 1930.

There could be another reason but it's not springing to mind.

That "BU" Seated LIb Dollar is a polished AU

Come on, who wants to split with me on this giant treasure hoard?? image

Yeah I see a polished AU dollar that says MS, and a lot of carefully placed coins to make the hoard look more valuable than it probably it in reality. These types of stories pop up on ebay every so often. If something seems too good to be true, then it probably isn't true.

Yeah, I noticed that "no Washingtons" line, along with the warnick and the 1942 halves.
Interesting lack of toning on the lot of Standing Quarters.

<< <i>Total B.S. liar. This guy can't even think up a good story. Look at the windows on the photo taken outside the "store". There are curtains on the windows and 3 panes of glass vertically in each window. Now look at the photo taken inside the store. NO curtains and 5 panes of glass vertically in the windows. NOT EVEN THE SAME BUILDING. >>

Note the stove and stovepipe, too. You don't see a stovepipe in the exterior shot. The picture could have been taken from the front of the store, facing the back.

Don't be so fast to condemn. I thought this was one of those "grab bag" Dutch auction things at first, and was turned off, but if he guarantees you're getting everything in the pics and then some, it might be an interesting lot.

Would I spend $73K for it? No. I'd want to examine such a lot in person before buying.

But it looks kind of fun.

The genral store is a joke. The inside pictures were taken from some museum or "Pioneer Town" somewhere. Nothing on the shelves or in the store is something one would purchase in the last 50 years.

The coins suck too! This is a total ripoff!

    Wow, tuff crowd.

But yeah, you're right- the whole "General Store" setup is definitely a stage set.
