    I believe this is a widely-accepted exception, because chop marks were a common, standard practice in circulating in the Orient during that era.

    Then again, you could say the same for the 'X' scratched into a lot of Bust coinage from contemporary merchants hacking into them to make sure they really were silver or gold.

    If you remove the Silver Surfer decale, you'll find a quarter.

    And believe it or not, a quarter counts as a coin.
