eBay seller with feedback score of '1' has high end coins for sale

GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 18,500 ✭✭✭✭✭
This guy just had an 1874 PCGS MS62 $10 Liberty Gold go unpurchased.

No serious takers

Look at these coins up for auction.....

Coins for Sale

I guess what I'm asking.......how does a coin seller get his/her start on ebay???

I'm very suspicious of a newbie seller offering top dollar coins right out of the gate.

Shouldn't he/she be offering lower tier coins to get started??

Anyone else agree????

Could there be some good deals here???

Take a look at the 1 guy that bought the Franklin half....it was a steal!!!!!!!!!!!!

ebay must protect their chinese interests.... just as walmart. We need counterfeits and copies. Remember, it's about how cheap we can get the best junk.

If they are legit then there are enough buyers that know them and are comfortable giving them a start on Ebay, he appears to have enough low end coins up that he will have decent feedback in no time .
Having said that ,he has nice pics and the high end gold coins at least ,appear overgraded and he may just be offloading them

Plus, he is trying to use a sort of "proxy feedback" to reassure you i.e., "Please view our feedback under the corporate principals' personal eBay account: Getaways4bid. Getaways4bid has 100% positive feedback from 184 unique eBay members and 345 total positive Feedbacks.

I personally would wait until he has a more established track record of his own before shelling out any big buckos to him!

    This smells bad!

I'mean, just look at the style of the gallery pics!
Some are reverse only, some are obverse only, some are one side of the holder, some are 2 sides of the holder, some scanned, some taken with a digital camera..... Who is that diverse in taking pictures of their coins?

Don't know, but I would wait until he has more feedback before committing serious money.

It looks to me like they are listing coins with high reservses. They are out the listing fees. If the price is too high, don't bid.

I suspect his listings are legit.

BUT, all of his listings are, as noted above,
in violation of EBAY's TOS and would be removed
    if they were reported.

Actually, somebody should probably tip him off
about the violation. I think he just does not know
    any better.

As most of you know, a link to his site would be fine if it was
    on his ME Page.

Sellers like this really should hire some help
to figure out the rules, B4 they get started
    on EBAY.

Too bad. He has some decent stuff.

MANY buyers agree with that notion.

But, if followed by all, it would preclude most new
    sellers from ever getting started.

if i lost money on a coin i tried to strectch for, i would be ruined
strategically and mentally with my collection.

it is not worth it. as it stands, i can sell today and recoup almost
everything i have spent. losing on one deal is just not worth it.

that is probably why 95% of my coins are slabbed by pcgs. cough.

Seller has an 1885-s $10 LIb in PCGS MS63 that has 25 bids already. Sounds like they are attracting a lot of attention.

I for one would not be so bold with a 1 FB seller. But if there was a coin I wanted I'd ask for some additional trade references...preferably not Beavertown Coin (lol)

I have had numerous low-FB buying accounts.

Some I have used if the seller looks suspect; some
I have used to prevent folks from seeing how much
I paid for items I flip.

Bidder 9 could be in one of those categories.

Total scammer with ripped off pics. Do your homework people!

he has a point. who takes 15 different pics of coins with different
    cropping, backgrounds, and etc...

i did not even look at the auction when i stated my opinion, but
if you bid on this stuff, you get what you deserve.

i agree with above poster. nothing is right about this seller.
  • As I mentioned in a previous thread, if I like or need an item I will bid regardless of the sellers status (notwithstanding any negative feedback!). With all the many scammers out there (and there are many) some reluctance from collectors with regard to low or no feedback sellers can be well justified.

    Tough Crowd.

My bet - and I would have to get good odds - is
    that the seller is legit.

The red-flags are mitigated by the website.

Look at the photo formats on that site (in the
"inventory" section) and compare them to the
    EBAY photos.

Scamsters, in general, do not use reserves.

Scamsters do not list off-EBAY websites in
long-duration listings. The site owner would
bust the scamster long b4 the listing ends.

Scamsters do not include content that violates
EBAY's general TOS; "offering off-EBAY merch
    for sale;" "excessive S+H."

Experienced scamsters KNOW that high-FB can be
built in a couple of days. Why start at ZERO, when
    you don't have to?

    The outcome will be interesting.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT saying it is OK to bid on
    these listings.

I have got to throw my 2 cents into this feedback debate. I have been on Ebay for 9 yrs now and only have 14 feedbacks. All are positive (so far). I dont buy or sell very much on ebay but I always try to pay fast and ship fast. I describe things honestly and ALWAYS treat people fairly. My question to the members here is how many positive feedbacks do I need to be a trusted seller? Ive been in our trophy and engraving business for 16 years in the same location so its not like Im a fly by night operator.
So how about giving the newbie the chance to prove himself .
Thats all I have to say on that subject.

so i do not fault anyone, i included, for jumping the gun on this one.

<< <i>...says something a bout a bunch of people that automatically assume the worst.... >>

It does say something, and not just about the people on the board. It says there are a LOT of ripoff artists in the coin market -- particularly on eBay -- and we've learned to be skeptical and cautious.

I agree that openly accusing someone in a public forum (without substantial evidence) is bad form, but I think anyone who has any sense of self-preservation on eBay would have some doubts.

For every time this happens, we've probably shed light on 10 true scam artists. That's a pretty good ratio.

In the end, while I think the start was unfortunate, I suspect this seller got more sympathy and positive publicity by demonstrating his legitimacy and the psychopathic nature of his trading nemesis than any damage from the initial suspicion. Not that this makes "shoot first and ask questions later" the ethical thing to do, but I don't think there's been any damage done.
  • Shed the light on scam artists?...sure...if you think so...they come back and continue to do so. All you guys are able to do is point out the obvious ones that Ray Charles could have pointed out, the ones like this guy ar hung out to dry with no reason what so ever...The damage is done alright....go look in the mirror.

Look in the mirror? Find one post in these threads where I shot first and asked questions later. You won't find one.

Don't get on your high horse and tell me to look in the mirror. I'm simply explaining where I think that mentality is coming from.
  • Sheesh.....it was a rhetorical remark for those that DID do it...you were defending them....You know, let's just drop it..this is exactly what is wrong with this forum...shoot the messenger, yea, shoot first, everybody's guilty here until proven innocent....if they can ever prove it....you win....if a person is not part of this little "group" then by all means lets go after his arse...

Yeah, that's a strong defense of their actions.

<< <i>You know, let's just drop it..this is exactly what is wrong with this forum...shoot the messenger... >>

The messenger fired the first shot.

Anyway, yeah, consider it dropped. Unless you want to respond one more time, in which case you can have the last word.

I disagree with your assessment in this case. There were a dozen or so unique resposes, only one person called the seller a scammer, most thought he was probably legit, a few criticzied the auction layout, photographs, etc. and a few had reservations about buying from low feedback seller. YOU are the one who is assuming the worst in this case with regards to forum members, and therefore maybe YOU need the shrink.
  • RYK.....Once again......it's the attitude as a whole on here.....not just this one case.....But nevermind...No body that disagrees with the "in" crowd here will get any undestanding, so drop it...I have as of now.
