Same coin?? I need your eyes & opinions.

Okay, I bought a raw Indian Head Cent on eBay from a single picture (yeah, yeah... I know).

Auction Pic:

I know it's worn & dinged up, but the reason I liked it & bid on this particular one is because the last 8 in the date was flat at the top - I thought it was cool.

So, I get the coin today.... and everything looks the same, same dirt & grime, same details, (even the little gouge beside the mouth) - But... the 8 is round?!?!

Is this the same coin? What am I missing here??

It may appear flat in the seller's image because of lighting angle.

All of the 8's look a bit flat across the top...it may be a camera issue!

I downloaded both pictures, kept them the same size, side by side both appear to have same flat top 8

It's the lighting, or the angle or the.......It happens all the time, just ask any VAMmer.....

That was my first thought, so I tried all kinds of lighting and angles... no luck on getting it to look flat!

(BTW- the large picture is just a flat scan)

Strange, in the seller's photo, it almost looks like a ghost image of the top an 8 above the last 8.
