Guess the day my grades pop and win a prize

Hey guys,

Been reading the boards for a while, finally decided to join. Just got back into cards after a 10year hiatus. Anyway, I sent about 1000 cards in back in march, it was entered 4/7/07.

Whoever can guess the day the grades pop will win a prize. ( some wax packs (82 fleer+87 donruss+90 leaf)

My first post here, maybe i can get some good luck from these boards and start getting some grades!

Thanks for reading,
Roger

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for the replys.

If nobody gets the date correct i will just ship the prize to the closest guess.

I have about 3500 cards total sent in since that date.

    Should be interesting.

My whole life was cards until about 1998.. then i moved on to "the real world".. and now i realize that
the real world is boring and cards make me feel young again!

Feel free to post your results when they do come in. I'd like to see how you make out and you may even sell a number of them -- if they are not all part of your permanent collection.

Best of luck to you on the grades

I really just like busting wax, rack, cello, vending cases open. Most of the stuff will be for sale/trade.
Once i start getting stuff back will probably be interested in selling or trading for 1956 topps psa 8 or better.

Thats an important year for me and will try to eventually complete that set.

All of the stuff that i sent in is 1979-1998 in baseball, football and basketball.

Cracking some 84-88 tiffany sets this weekend.

Here is what i opened so far
    79-86 topps baseball.
    87 fleer+donruss baseball
    85 donruss and leaf baseball.
    82 fleer stamp baseball.
    79-87 topps football
    89 score football
Ton of 92 bowman and 90 leaf baseball.
And lots of assorted 1990+ low pop stuff. (OPC and panini stickers etc..)

Not sure how this will go...

Basically started again with the cards to stay out of casinos..

    Roger-
  • Staying out of casinos, that was one of my reasons for getting into cards too, what are the odds of that?
When your grades pop let me know on the 82's. Thanks again-Steve

You sent in 5,500 cards in before you ever get one back from PSA? And all this after a 10 year lay-off from cards?

I would be interested in any PSA 9 or PSA 10 rookies from your football submissions.

    ..any of these years.
    79-87 topps football
    89 score football

Best of Luck! I really hope you called and tried to get a break on pricing before you sent these in under a $6 modern sub... ???

    Funny you mention brett butler.

I look through the set registry to see who people are collecting so when i started cracking I sent in some brett butlers..

Off the top of my head i know i sent in 92 topps gold, 85 fleer, 94 flair and maybe some stadium club members only.

I have not been in cards for 10 years so i dont know what is what but I sent in pretty much every "10" i could spot from 79-86 topps baseball and football.

I also was a pretty big grader back in 98 for modern cards so i think i have a pretty good eye. I sent in over 10,000 cards back then so this doesnt seem like a lot.

The market is nothing like it was back then but i remember selling 89 bowman griffey 10s for $1000+ and even sold a 96-97 sp antoine walker SGC 100 for $1000 believe it or not.

The modern stuff is so cheap its more of just a hobby to crack and send in cards.

I did well enough in the last 10 years to not worry about the money aspect of it but the joy it gives me is not measureable.

The total money i invested in all of the product and grading fees thus far was basically one trip to the baccarrat table for me so basically this is a gift and using it to get my life back together.

Thanks for all the replies. Hope i will be able to help some of you out when i get some cards back.

Just to give you an idea of some of the crap i am cracking tonight....

    91 proline, 91 proset football
    93,94 playoff football
    92 bowman football
    94 pinnacle football..

Just looking for elway's , marino's, sanders, smith etc in "10" quality and some inserts.

Come on man. Nobody else thinks this is BS.

Having a great eye is one thing, but who in the heck sends in >5000 modern cards, mostly from junk sets, after admiting he's not sure "what is what after 10 years". Nobody. You would think a small "tester" submission of say, <1000 cards, would be the logical way to go. Picking out the 10's is a lot easier said than done. What is he going to do with PSA 8 cards from 1980's and 90's sets?

Sorry man, just not buying the story. Prove me wrong and post the submission results. Even then, If there are subs that confirm all these modern submissions, I'm going to have a very hard time believing your not a full time bulk submitter than is just trying to spam the boards, instead of some rich guy who has 30 large to blow.

    Wow bob wow...

Not much to say to that...

Let me take you through it once again....

1998- heavy into cards - set up at the national - sell all my cards - lose everything in one day in atlantic city...

1999-2006 - never even look at a card - work hard ( stockbroker - poker player - real estate) - make money - lose lots of money gambling - go to rehab - try to get life back together - told that i should find a hobby to stay busy

Late 2006- 2007 - remember selling cards - start buying some boxes to break open - discover the psa set registry - see potential to stay busy and have fun and possibly make some money - crack product - send in lots of cards..

I understand that 30k might be a lot of money to you bob but it isnt for anyone - this summer i played in a poker tournament in bellagio for 12 hours and won 46,000.

Some people are just skeptics..oh well.

Did you pick a date? maybe YOU can win the prize..lolimage

    Just one thing to add-

If i get an 8 on every single card i send in it will still be worth it for me....

I havent been in a casino in 5 months...

The money i spend on this hobby pales in comparison to the money i lost to my disease...

    Hey Roger -

    You're right, I'm a skeptic.

Nice job on the Tourney. Heading to WPT bootcamp myself this September at the Borgatta.

Guess I felt like playing message board cop, which I shouldn't. I apologize.

    Bob - no problem.

I understand and I know in this business just like any other there are a lot of people with hidden agendas.

I got 12 in a wsop event last year - lost to a 1 outer with the chip lead - put me on tilt for the rest of the tourneys...

But I did play with phil ivey immediately to my left for 12 hours which was fun...

When you google my name it shows day 1 chip leaders of that event me and him -

The tourney i won was a bellagio cup 1k buyin.. it was at the end of my 2 months in vegas so i didnt really get to appreciate it - I was so burned out and had so many swings in the cash games/table games that it didnt feel like i won anything.

Now that I have a steady job its a different story...

Maybe i will see you at the table one day.. My goal is to stay away from gambling all together until i feel confident enough to walk into a casino- play poker and not run to the baccarrat table right after...
