An Internet Seller Association?
I'm still very new to the CU Boards so may be ignorant of previous such suggestions, BUT, we all carp on the sleazy eBay sellers without any way to separate ourselves from that pack except gradually building a good reputation.
Maybe it's time for an INTERNET COIN SELLER ASSOCIATION?
Not intended to be a big deal, just an association of fair-minded Internet sellers who agree to abide to:
- no stock photos
- use of mainly numismatic descriptive terms, some hype allowed...
- no PCGS Price Guide nonsense unless a PCGS holder is up
- at-cost or reasonably close to it shipping charges
- returns allowed (within reason) and policy clearly spelled out
- no copies, no coin fraud, no funny stuff.
In other words, separate the good guys from the sharks.
Link up with existing "coin police". Form a leadership group of respected forum members willing to vote up or down on reported violators. Simply drop violaters from the rolls.
Find one retired old-fart numismatist willing to ride heard for a modest stipend. Low cost membership, just enough to cover costs.

<< <i>If there were a way to attract customers and avoid ebay and paypal fees, I'd be all for it. That eats up most profits and they win and we loose. >>
Saying PayPal fees eat most of the profit is a little off the mark, I think. Offering it to buyers usually results in more bids which can more than offset the fees.

If i would not have to tell how much i am worth like PNG that is none of their
business how much money i have or dont have.
There is enough rich old boys clubs out there. Your money does not make you a good person.
I know dealers that are PNG members and i would not buy from them.
we would need a learning forum of some kind.
Like PCGS Most anyway went to ANA at one time . So that would mean that a MS 64 is a MS 64 world around .
Hey GIA has done it. YOu want to know about Gems you go to GIA . you go to school, like ANA to learn .
Like where did most of the grades come from PCGS and all others when they started, ANA
Anyway you want the coin not the holders. look PCGS has made bad grades to.
And dont tell me you never sold anything on ebay!
25 inf 1/14 Gold Dragons ,never surrender, over come and adapt
and hold at all cost!
Russ, I'm dimly aware of the ebay group but what has it accomplished?
Oh well, guess I'm quixotic with this thread.
"And dont tell me you never sold anything on ebay!"
I confess have bought and sold a few Ikes and SBAs on eBay, 1500 100% + rating, not that that means a whole lot. Rob

Basically the idea is:
Since everyone is a dealer, some are casual sellers, others, much more. Offer a business membership for $35 a year (or something like that) to anyone who is a seller.
The $35 goes to a background check. and other operating expenses. The member gets the blessing of the ANA (cen use a special logo) and if there is a problem they get listed with the problem on the web site. No problems, they get the benifit of higher sales on ebay - maybe.
<< <i>eBay already has a similar group.
Russ, NCNE >>
The group on Ebay has an awful hard time naming names and getting away with it. Almost anytime a thread gets going that actually warns of an unscrupulous seller by User Id, The thread gets zapped by Ebay or the group gets told that it will be eliminated. That group is well intended by the folks on it but Ebay has made it sterile.
