I saw that too and wondered why he didn't just add them to the auction.

I'd like to see what the big slab looks like.

Maybe the seller is afraid of photo thieves??

Could be a couple of things....

    1) Seller may be new to ebay (ie...not have another account) and not know much (how to add photos from external sources to an ebay auction)
    2) Seller is cheap and doesn't want to pay a few cents more for each additional pic
    3) Seller is cultivating ebay IDs/emails for some reason
    4) Seller may work with someone, off ebay, once they have the email alias, and not pay the fees....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • I think I will go bid on them just to make sure the ball gets rolling. I have a couple of these out to grading at NGC and I want to see this price go as high as possible in the next few weeks.
Looks like his reserve is $35

After reading his descriptions I would say he's not a very experience seller. He's failing to play up the first strike holy grail. That alone would increase the final price.

Am I correct that his cost is roughly 40 bucks a piece?

Maybe he got his grades online, then immediately listed the auctoin, but didn't yet have them in hand...

The bids on the two FDCs are now up tp $59 and $61.01. With grading fees the seller has a cost basis of $40 plus shipping and eBay fees.

    That is about right.
I sent in 5 and my total cost is about $42 each.
I don't expect to recoup my cost I just thought they would be neat slabbed.

that auction says "semi-rigid protective sleeve". does that mean laminated? if it is NGC has reached a new low.

I don't get it. Why even send them in for grading if they never leave the mint packaging. Hell, buy a plastic case for them.

NGC probably used same plastic material that PMG(NGC currency division) uses, semi rigid plastic sleeve.

The worst part is that NGC won't offer a guaranty on the grades for coins inside the semi-rigid holders according to their article:

"Because the coins are graded while still housed within the U.S. Mint Cover and will remain in this packaging, the NGC Coin Grading Guarantee does not apply. The NGC Guarantee applies only to coins in NGC holders. Like other NGC graded coins, the grades for these coins will be reported in the NGC Census, and they will be eligible for the NGC Registry."

it seems it does not matter what the series is but if you get top grades(i.e. MS/PR70), or in this case MS67 or MS68(none yet) it would go for moon money. its all just part of the hype. cheers image

You may be too late fc. All the modern collectors may have been desensitized by Laura since they are still waiting to buy 1995-W ASEs at melt image
  • Nothing wrong with making a little profit and to wish bad things on another for no reason is nuts!

Seller just listed a pair of 66's.

This one should go for good money, already at starting bid of $95.00

it will be interesting to see the pop reports for these. i wonder if anybody who returned their boxes want them back now???image

it may be that the coins here are pretty good all around. like the 2006 Silver stuff being ~85% MS69-70. that would really help the raw ones sell?????

My prediction is he will have some company soon selling those graded covers

I have 15 in the mail being returned from NGC as we speak, just 'cause I liked the grading within the soft plastic sleeve.

I also like the grading of the whole cover. My 5 sets still show 'scheduled for grading'.
I am not expecting high grades on mine I opened 6 covers and sent in 5. I have 1 on my desk to look at and for show and tell. I probably will sell 1 or 2 and save the others for gifts.

    How were your grades?

after one each gets set aside for the kids, myself, maybe a few family members (who are collectors) want one, i'm lucky if I have 10 to sell.

I sent 15 immediately and they we shipped back to me Friday.
  • Wow!! I'm sure glad I was able to buy a couple of these. I knew they would do well. image
