The coin is not in a plastic holder.

It looks like it's in a mylar flip. If the distortion is in the plastic, it can appear like it's on the coin surface. I've been fooled this way before.

If the coin is fully raw, you definitely have something worth sending to Leroy.

Thanks. The coin is fully raw. I collect mostly gold coins and don't know this series very well. How do I get a hold of Leroy?

I have a group going out to Leroy next week. If you would like to send the coin to me, I'll pre-screen it, provide my opinion, photograph it, and then piggyback it with my coins for his examination.

I have been fooled on bourses with bad lighting into thinking things like that which end up being a fold in the 2x2 carboard holders' plastic or something similar. It crosses into the device so I am inclined to guess that is what you have there. A gouge would be a total winner if it was the case though.

Looks strange in that it's very smooth for a gouge and it transitions nicely from the field to the chin. Could also be occluded gas.

I'm about 98% sure thats just something going on with the holder, you can see a scuff on the holder and then the refection on the coin.

I'm about 100% sure that the coin is not in a holder...
