Die crack on Montana Quarter

I haven't been paying much attention to the State Quarter news, but did notice that one I got from a new roll has a die crack from the bottom of Washingtons bust thru the "T" in the word Quarter.
I assume this is fairly common? Educate me! Also, in the case of Morgans for example, die cracks usually run through the stars, on these modern coins, they seem to run from the decive to the lettering...any reason for that?
Thanks for any info you may share.
Pete
