Die crack on Montana Quarter

RollermanRollerman Posts: 1,897 ✭✭✭✭✭
I haven't been paying much attention to the State Quarter news, but did notice that one I got from a new roll has a die crack from the bottom of Washingtons bust thru the "T" in the word Quarter.

I assume this is fairly common? Educate me! Also, in the case of Morgans for example, die cracks usually run through the stars, on these modern coins, they seem to run from the decive to the lettering...any reason for that?

Thanks for any info you may share.

  • i`ve seen quarters from quite a few states with a die crack from the bottom left of the bust running thru the Q in quarter. here are 2 different states. it must be an area that is more prone to cracks. not sure why.

  • The bottom of the bust seems to be an area that cracks on a lot of coins. Here is a PA Quarter that both dies cracked. Sorry for the cruddy picture.

I've got quite a few (like maybe a roll or more with a few graded PCGS MS66) South Carolina quarters with the die crack starting at the end of the tail feathers and the crack progressing all the way to the edge. I pulled them all out of a $1000 bag.

    PM me for price. image
