Can a collector’s or dealer’s numismatic stature get watered down through his participation in other
I see several references to the Open Forum Refugee site. I have never been on the site, but I hear that you are required to use your PCGS screen name on the OFR site. Also, I hear from other collectors that the OFR site is quite wild, and someone even suggested that after a visit, one is lucky to log off the site with his life intact.
The reason why I don’t even want to peek under the OFR tent is as follows—I am afraid that people who I view as very prominent numismatists might have their stature watered down in my view by reading their postings on the OFR site.
For example, I highly regard board member Mark Feld’s comments on these PCGS boards (when he participated). However, if I took a look at the OFR site (and this is just a HYPOTHETICAL), and I saw Mark Feld dropping the F-bomb, harassing others, and posting girlie pictures, I would have a totally different view of him. Therefore, I feel that one’s stature of a numismatist transcends their purely numismatic participation here, and also spills into other areas of their lives.
Does anyone else avoid the OFR or other refugee sites, in order not to blow your image of the upstanding participants on these PCGS boards?

There were a lot of threads I was afraid to open there as well.

In my opinion, yes. Here is a sampling of current thread titles on page one over there...

Personally I've curtailed my participation in the site by a great deal lately as I think it's declined into a bit of a cess pool.
The OFR fulfills that need.
Over there, I have also registered as "PhillyJoe" but I don't think anyone has made the connection.

Come on over to the other side and see.
