How many have ordered the paris mint LIBERTAS restrike?

Has anyone ordered the Paris mint restrike of the Libertas medal in bronze or silver. The mintage on both will be under 1,000. Do you think that this item has investment potential (low mintage, historical importance, classic numismatic delicacy, strike by Paris mint, reasnable price).

Where are you reading mintage for each will be under 1000? I've seen the silver mintage capped at 2500 on govmint.com. This is somewhat interesting because the govmint.com photo looks like the one offered by Talisman Coins and Talisman says they are the exclusive distributor. But that exclusive distributorship sounds strange to begin with since how likely is it for the Paris Mint to only use one dealer?

The thing is that the Paris Mint makes periodic restrikes of many of their medals, not just this one. They did gold LA versions in 1976 and then again in 2000 so you never know when they'll make more.

It is nice, the web page just says 90% silver, does anyone know how much? i.e. 1 Oz?

The ones in 76 were not the exact same size as the original Libertas Americana Medal. These from the Paris Mint are in exact proportion of the original medal. Talismancoins is the official distributor. You won't find these on the Paris Mint website because Talisman is the only distributor of these. 1000 is the unofficial mintage. The Paris Mint could restrike these later on but there is no guarantee that they will.
  • Back in November I ordered the silver Libertas from Talisman, and it finally came in from Paris in January. Truly a nice medal. I could never own an original at $1000,000 per, but loved the style and the story behind it. Since then I have purchased several medals, Fire and Ice by Daub- Society of Medalists#121 and the Cat and Mouse on Cheese by Weinman- SOM #115.image

    << <i>1000 is the unofficial mintage. >>

What does this mean? It's not a maximum or final mintage?

<< <i>The Paris Mint could restrike these later on but there is no guarantee that they will. >>

There's no guarantee but based on over 100 years past practices, I'd be very surprised if they don't do it again in the future.

I bought the bronze one from tailsman, along with another medal. The medals are very well made. I will post my pictures of both of these medals shortly.

Well they just came in the mail and are truly stunning!!!. The plastic vacumm sealed packaging is kinda cheesy though. I think I'll order another set. I'll send one set to NGC for a multiholder and let the other set tone naturally in the artificial toning section of my house ;-)

  • I ordered one of each from Talisman coins. They arrived in about two weeks in blue Paris Mint boxes and are stunning. It's nice having Talisman in my back yard. The unofficial estimate I heard for mintage is at or around 1,000 for Talisman.

I currently own 3 of the silver and 3 of the bronze. They are very nice. I love the products Talisman has to offer.

    Those are real sweet.

I bought the spouse medals and love them.

And now these I love too.

    I might start buying medals.

I bookmarked Talisman's website and when I get some extra cash I will buy them.

They are about 2 In. wide and the bronze medal is 1-1/2 oz.s and the silver is almost 2 oz.s (if my math is good).

Must be real nice in hand.

Talisman has some interesting stuff - a nice looking Benjamin Franklin Restrike, and some Pope John Paul Medals, too. But the Libertas Americana is what got me interested.
