Congratulations Earl, interesting discovery, especially with the vertical thread-like impressions. I am off to look at my 81-S Morgans right now.
  • Thanks for the comments! It's always fun to find different features in coins.. This example actually went in for a odd clashing event and thought that the doubling was caused by it. I am going to resubmit this one as the clash that caught my eye was this:

There looks to be the lower arrowhead..measurements are pretty danged close with additional clashing throughout the coin.

Yours looks like it. Can you look below the "B" in "Pluribus" and see if you have any clashing there?

    Thanks!

Nice! The doubled die is fairly strong on the 81-S. The 02-O looks like another entry into the list of "cootie" varieties. There are probably enough of them to make collecting "cooties" a viable pursuit.
  • Thanks guys! Does anyone have a set of calipers small enough to measure the lower arrowhead on the rev, and the distance from the tip straight across to the denticles on the rev? This coin has some oddities that I am trying to locate and see if there is a transfer of any lettering or mm on the obv.
