ANACS: $14 Special: Morgan grading and Vam Research....

Anacs, is running a pretty good special until May 4th. For $14 per coin, they will grade and do the VAM research on any Morgan dollar.

I just sent a bunch of Morgans I had laying around from when I, a very naive collector, first started collecting about four years ago. I can't wait to see how many come back cleaned.

But I think for $14, including VAM research is a pretty good deal.

Beats their Georgia show special. I never sent anything to ANACS before. But to make eBay buyers a little more comfortable I might ship off a box to them. Might do the "discovery coin" tagging for the raw one or two I have as well.

whats the comparison to PCGS and NGC, in terms of Vam ID'ng etc.

They at least will do ANY VAM and not just a select group. I understnad why the others don't provide a more comprehensive service, but that is sometimes what one can use. They seem pretty good with the attributions. I have noted a few mistakes, mainly either some newer ones or on ones that had been revised by Leroy after they were tagged. Considering the number they do, the mistake rate isn't horrible. It is also biased by the fact that there are a few big submitters who do their job largely for them in the submission.

I've been surprized at how strict the new Anacs is in grading Morgan $.I sent in a few a while back and was shocked at the 61's and 62's that I got after comparing them to Pcgs 63's and 64's I thought they would grade at least 63.

edit to add.I also had new Anacs to cross at the same grade in Pcgs holders recently.(not cross-over but crack-out and resubmit and got same grades.)

If you wanted to ruin John Roberts' day (VAM guy at ANACS), send them a whole bunch of banged up 1881-S. Since John is a good guy, don't do that.

LOL....that or a number of other similar dates come to mind.
