Why are 1966 CAM SMS halves so hard to find with deep watery black fields.......

........ compared to finding deep watery black fields on CAM SMS 1965 and 1967 halves?

I have looked for years for a black and white 66 with no luck. Even the best coins I have found have fields that look like a thin filmy haze is on the coin, however it can not be removed. 65 and 67 date coins both come with far better mirrors. I found a very nice 66 half a couple of days ago yet it still has the hazy look. Even the 1966 half pictured in Mr. Tomaskas book on Cameo proof & SMS coins has haze on it compared to the 65 and 67.

What gives?

They certainly are. I have a few sets. Cross your fingers! image
  • There is a very nice one with deep mirrors and no haze comming up as a NGC MS67 Ultra Cam @ Teletrade ..........

and I disagree somewhat - the '65 is tuffer with watery, black hole mirrors

The SMS halves go from easy to tough in reverse order.

    67-65 Easy to tough.

I find the 66 obtainable. I have made two 68UCAM 66 halves in the last year. Not easy, but certainly around.

Keep looking and you'll find one, or let me know and i can sell you one!
