Wow didn't realize so many people on here where for Champaign-Urbana. The poor people that never have lived here, don't know what a wonderfull place it is. Where else does a street like Prospect go from crowded commerical real estate to gravel road through a cornfield in a mile lol

Did you ever have a Polar Burger while you were at SIU? weird burger made with beef mixed with oats.. was a depression/wartime money saving thing. I have a freind that took me eat there once.. it was a little outside Cabondale in the country. Last time I was in Carbondale I was on a Greyhound bus heading to Kentucky, but years ago I went to alot of parties and concerts there.

I was at SIU 1968-1972, Viet Nam protest era, campus closed due to student rioting, year of Kent State, National Guard and Illinois State Police teargassed our dorms. Did not have a Polar Burger. but "the" spot to eat was Ma Hale's in Grand Tower, IL. on the banks of the Mississippi.

You got that right. And those people should, if their schedule permits, pay the Champaign-Urbana Coin Club a visit. A small yet fun club. They meet at the Urbana Civic Center on the 1st Monday of the month, and they have a really good coin show at the same location on the 1st Sunday in November. And yes, I am a member of that club and visit regularly.
I would like to move there but my wife is employed with EIU in Charleston (which is, for all practical purposes, a very boring little place unlike C-U).

Born in Chicago (anybody remember when Passavant wasn't just a wing at Northwestern Memorial?), moved to the 'burbs soon after: Mt Prospect, Lake Zurich, Glendale Heights, and now Palatine (with a stop in DeKalb for a few years-beer nuggets!). I work downtown now, and I'm getting tired of spending 2 hours a day on Metra. However, it is better than the el, so that's something!
You did make one error on your list of Illinois-isms: If you're truly from Illinois (and over 30), you call it "Great America," not "Six Flags!"
Of course, I still call it "New Comiskey," "the Northwest Suburban YMCA" and "the East-West Tollway" rather than "US Cellular Field," "Lattof YMCA," and "the Ronald Reagan Tollway." I guess I picked up a stubborn streak from my dad.
I would add a couple more to the list, too:
26. You know the proper pronunciation of spiced meat in a tube is "Sah-Sej." 27. You know what condiment not to ask for at Gene & Jude's Red Hots in River Grove.
