When you're bowing out of ANA politics, it is easy to make a controversial statement in print...
I was reading the latest issue of Coin World (April 30th; sorry Mark
), and there is a letter to the editor in there from a current ANA Governor. The letter states that he is not running for re-election for personal reasons. That is fine. The ANA elections, like any other electoral process, is very political. A politician, no matter if they are running for the school board, running for President of the US, or a governor seat at the ANA, will say what they need to say in order to become elected. Who can forget John Kerry's famous reply, "I was for the war [in Iraq], before I was against it." The only good thing about these filthy, stinkin' politicians is that once they are out of the political process, they tend to say things that are controversial, and which represent their own views, without a fear of political retaliation by their constitutents.
In this letter, the ANA Governor makes the following statement, "Finally, I would like to thank Chris Cipoletti, ANA's Executive Director, for bringing a higher level of professionalism to the business of the ANA."
Had this person been running for re-election, a statement like that would be political suicide.
