Anyone see the article in CW about the ANA President (Horton) removing David Sklow as ANA Historian?
I was taking a look at the April 30th issue of CW. I thought I was having deja vu because I read last year that David Sklow got removed as ANA Library Director. This article in the current issue indicates that President Horton now has removed Sklow as ANA Historian. The ANA Historian is a special, non-paid officer position at the ANA.
It seems that Sklow is challenging Horton's authority to fire him because according to Sklow's interpretation of the ANA bylaws, the person in the ANA Historian position can only be removed by an action of the Board of Governors. Sklow also claims that Horton removed him in retaliation for Sklow speaking out at an open ANA session in Charlotte, in what is characterized in the paper as a "sharp exchange." Horton informed CW that he is currently reviewing the ANA Bylaws (no doubt under the watchful eye of others at HQ).
I don't want to be cynical, but I think the current ANA management, board of governors, and executives need to start to act like professionals, know the rules and regulations, and act in a way that is proper and ethical. I know many of the members of the senior team at the ANA are dealers, but I don't know everyone's background. I would hope that these so-called professionals act in a more responsible manner in their "real lives". I don't know how they survive in their real occupations if they act so babyish when conducting the business of representing each of us in ANA matters. The whole situation at the ANA is getting sadder and sadder by the day.

I think I'd like a pro-rated refund.
Well, my CW didn't bother to make an appearance today. So, did the article quote President Horton at all?
Thanks.
And BTW-- I have not received my Stack's catalogs yet. So I am sipping my fine cognac with my computer, rather than the Ford sale.

I haven't received my Ford catalogs either, so I am slurping my Mt. Dew at my laptop.

of years it is hard to keep track of it all and I suspect even more stuff has gone on behind the scenes that we don't even know
about yet.
<< <i>This whole mess will be settled after the election results come in late July. We REALLY need a NEW administration with NEW ideas and a strong commitment to COMMUNICATE on an ongoing basis with the membership. Let's hope we get it. Steve
If a group of serious reformers is elected then there is sure to be a power struggle with the executive director, it will be interesting
to see how that goes.
<< <i>I am beginning to regret becoming a life member a few years back. >>
This is exactly why I never became a life member. I feel like I lose what little leverage with the organization I may have otherwise had.
The ANA board, particularly its officers, are looking more and more out of control. I am waiting with baited breath to see if any incumbents will go on record to distance themselves from the officers and the executive director. If not, even though I know a few of them are probably worth re-electing, I won't vote for a single incumbent.

Although, it could possibly be a bit cynical to tell them to get off their high horses, that their style of stewardship makes the hobby look, to say the least, very uninviting, that their behavior is at best embarrassing to all those that they represent, to act like adults instead of selfish, self-serving spoiled brats, to work together for the betterment of the hobby or step down and STFU, but given their atrocious behavior and dreadful performance, probably not.
I am not a LM of the ANA, but I do value the privileges of annual membership. Is there a bloc of candidates with a vision? And if so, who are they?

<< <i>In addition to Mr. Doran I would vote for Cliff Mishler and possibly Chet Krause. >>
Thank you, Michigan, and I would highly recommend Mr. Mishler and Mr. Krause for the ANA Board.

What he said. Most everything that has been posted about it in the past couple of years has been negative.
