    i'll take all coins dated 1877 from him at those prices...they were about brand new to him anyway.

    I'll look and see. I came across numerous articles related to auctions, an ANA convention in which about "half of the 300 members planned to attend" and such.

    I really enjoyed reading the articles on "new coinage" and how the numismatists of the day thought of them. There was quite an interesting article on the "New Gold Designs of St. Gaudens" and how some people in the numismatic community thoguht they were crap (although they used much more respectful language in 1907).

    "Nickel of 1856 with a Flying Eagle" That's interesting. They were still calling the nickel cent a "nickel" in 1880. This is the popular press so it reflects more common terminology rather than numismatic terminology. I didn't think that "A nickel" would still refer to the cent in 1880.
