what do you think of the toning on this barber half ?

I wish the seller had brighter images....

hmm, I wonder what's going on near the eye on the obverse

no return policy on slabbed coins.... no sale.

The 1899 is the true "generic" Barber half dollar and, while the toning is fine, those horrific scrapes across the face kill the coin.

I think it probably is pretty nice looking, although like you I do wonder about the marks around the eye. What grade is it?

Anacs slab AU55 I think.... I was looking for a typeset example. when I noticed the eyegouge I thought no way...

The holder seems to be ANACS's newer one,
which surprises me, as the coin obviously has problems.

The scrape accross Liberty's eyebrow should have been enough
to get the coin a net grade in their small "cachet" style holder.

Love the toning - but I'd pass on this one.

Toning is attractive, but the scrapes around the eye are a major negative. Personally, I wouldn't want it.
