It was shipped fully-insured.
There are a couple of bangs to the left-corners of the
boxes, visible in the scans. No way to know if that is
the "damage" being referred to.
EDITED TO ADD:
If the buyer saw the bangs and opened the boxes, he
should not have done so. Opening boxes that have
taken a hit is a sure way to void any seller's "return
policy."

I would say that it is miraculous, and virtually unheard of.
I hope that if BBCE does not find that they did something
wrong here, they will stick to their position in the matter.

Yes. But, if the delivery-carrier was to blame, there
should have been no negative to remove.
My fuse becomes shorter each-day with EBAY's PITA buyers.

<< <i>He has had SOOOOOOOO many positives that the math still says 100%
How is that possible? Should be 99.9% unless it gets removed, right?

Just swell
I believe ebay rounds up to 100% if you have enough positives to offset the one negative.

<< <i>What surprised me though is that this buyer had bought from Steve several times before and left very positive feedback. If the box was truly damaged during shipping, I'd have a hard time believing that Steve would risk getting a negative FB over a $40 item. >>
Im thinking the same thing.

no, if feedback is 99.95 plus then it is rounded to 100%.

The first 2000 positives negate 1 negative in the % displayed.
Thus, 100%.

Steve's reply ALMOST makes the negative worthwhile! What an idiot!

How so? I would be curious to hear how you can remove feedback like this - I always thought that unless the buyer agrees to remove it, he was pretty much stuck with it. I have read about paying $20 to Square Trade to facilitate this, but I thought the buyer still had to agree to the removal.
In fact, if I saw the "Buyer and seller mutually agreed to remove feedback" I might be more suspicious.
BBCE does a great job, they have nothing to worry about. Glad Steve made the wisecrack though, it is a classic.

Hopefully this will put an end to the threads where people chime in with "It is Ebays policy that the seller provide feedback once payment is received"....
Usually you get this from people who have never sold anything on ebay. In fact, I will be the 1st to admit I did a 180 on this issue once I took the plunge and started selling. I will, however, leave FB for some trusted buyers but now I am thinking maybe that would not be prodent based on the fact this guy seemed to have established a decent customer relationship with Steve and still left the neg after one bad experience.

Is it correct that the buyer must agree to mediation in order for a seller's neg to be removed? I vaguely recall that there is another method to have a neg removed for fee, without the buyer's cooperation, but I'm not sure. I recall that Steve received a bogus neg about a year or two ago but it was ultimately removed but I wasn't sure if the buyer had to agree to that or not (it was not a "mutually withdrawn" feedback).

That's what I remember, too, but I thought you could have it done even without the buyer's cooperation.

If I was BBCE, I would keep the NEG, block the bidder, and
KNOW that a TON of people are adding the bidder to their

cost himself alot more than 40-bucks just from this thread.

Yes, this customer was driving me nuts for a long time now. The neutral was because he didn't get any David Robinson rookies in 3 out of 4 boxes. Yet, he failed to mention he got 5 out of the 4th box. These were case fresh and untouched. Hoops was AWFUL that year with collation. He tols me that you should get 5-7 Robsinsons per box. Trying to explain that you SHOULD get 1.8 Robinsons per box didn't seem to phaze him about the fact he thought you should get 5-7 per box. Unbelievable.
I even bent over backwards on other items also over time.
This time, I told him that some Classic boxes, Ultra boxes and Stadium Club boxes have cards that may stick together somewhat due to the ultra glossy surface. So what does he do? He opens all 4 boxes and then tells me the cards had to be seperated. He wants a refund and the rest of the world. As usual, I would have worked with any customer to make them happy. However, at this point, I was taking it all the time with this particular person. We all know that some customers will not be happy no matter what. Well, this guy was the apex of that statement. All I can do is take the negative and move on. I don't even want to mediate to get rid of it. My brain has hurt enough with this guy. I guess getting a negative however has only promoted the fact that it took almost 9 years to get it!
Thanks to everyone for all the kind words! Steve
