It kind of burns my butt...........

I started this thread about a comment I made in another thread........
It kind of burns my butt that people think that they have to depend on a TPG to tell them what a coin is or isn't...... If you're spending the money, you better know for yourself what you're buying........

Editted to add......... If you've ever seen my butt, you'd know it would be more of a bonfire than a campfire

If you ever seen my butt, you'd know it is more like a book of matches than a campfire or bonfire.
and it sets us apart from practitioners and consultants. Gregor

I must say that I am guilty of at least doing a little burning. Sometimes, I believe the motivations to buy coins can sometimes cloud the judgement of sane people who know better.

Oops, is training people to not rely on TPGs a good thing? If so, I can put out the fire

I totally agree. Especially when it comes to varieties because I've seen a lot of misattributed coins in the TPG holders.
You guys will just have to wait until I get it in the mail.

"It burns my butt even more that people play nefarious games with coins so much that the non-expert collector feels compelled to rely on a second opinion by the TPGs. "
Ditto!
If I'm going to spend mucho bucks on a coin I'm going to do everything I possibly can in my power, to insure that I'm getting what the seller is claiming he/she has. A TPG now adays is a prerequisite for me before I make a purchase. This to me is a no brainer. There may be a few extenuating circumstances where
I'll deviate from this, but they are very few and far away.
Seriously, what is the big deal about using a TPG? Certainly one should buy the coin and not the holder, but TPG's have a role in numismatics.
