If you do a search of the forum you will likely find detailed instructions on how to attach or embed images. Also, if you turn your PM funtion on then folks would be much more likely to communicate with you instead of needing to send you an email.
OK, that's how new I am. I can't even figure out how to enable private messaging. I checked customize and profile. Maybe we should start with how to PM?
If you go under the "profile" tab near the top of the screen there will be an option on that page for "Allow private messages", or something like that, click the "On" option. This should enable you to send and receive PMs and will also show that status for others to see.
From what I can tell, the 1853 looks very weakly struck. Almost worn, but no other part is really worn. So is it a fake, what rating would you give it if it's real?
Reverse looks funny... hard to tell from the pic whether fake or not, but I believe it's cleaned. No way the obv is a 64 with all the marks on miss Liberty's chin and neck.
I was fortunate enuf to score two coins from the Stecher collection, an 1853 $1 in 63 and an 1898 2 1/2 Lib in 64, definately overpaid but love the original surfaces on the coins. I'm posting the 1853 dollar for comparison. I highly suggest you avoid Ebay, at least the raw coins. Just MHO of course, good luck...
Thanks for those great pics. That looks like what this was suppose to look like. I think it's real, but probably not the same coin he had intended to sell since it sold for so little. My guess is he just changed at a different coin. He offered me a 100% refund if not satisfied. I'm heading to a coin shop over lunch and I'll see what they say with the coin in hand instead of pics. Thanks

More great pics. That one looks at least as good as mine and probably better. They are definitely hard to grade. The auction stated he thought it was a 65 and if it came back a 64 he'd be disappointed. So how can an AU at best even be close? I think I need a refund.

And here it is slabbed:
to swine-pig proportions.
just stop buying raw for now. buy slabbed pcgs/ngc/anacs coins
and be very picky about the ones you do buy.
the whole gold coin scene is leftover crap that no one wants.
a good coin gets on ebay, oh, once a month and sells for good
money.
i look for nice half eagles, and i find a lot of stuff is not worth
looking at twice.
