I finally have photo taking down to an art...

thanks to a new Nikon D-80 with a 50mm macro lens and a small copy stand I bought with the camera. Everything I use now...lights, camera, stand, etc. is around $1,800. Not for the faint at heart (or pocketbook). But the image quality is outstanding!

    Lakesammman - this is in a slab...NGC MS64BN.

As for the lighting, it's a reostat controlled halogen light box with dual fiber optic light guides. You can get them here.

So far I haven't done much with proofs, just got the camera yesterday. Need time to get used to using it.

No...don't like photo domes. They don't work well, in my opinion. They flood the coin out too much.

Great call on the equipment. Quality cameras are like quality coins....you get what you pay for. I have been shooting a D100 from Nikon with a 105mm micro-nikkor for years. Here is a shot I did today.
