The only grade worth anything in a slab is a 70, and PCGS won't slab them a 70. Take them to NGC. The majority of eagles out of tubes are 68 and 69. The older the roll, the harder 70's are to come by, simply because they have changed hands so many times. But a slabbed 68 will sell for the same as a raw one, so you have to be sure what you're submitting is worth it.
If I buy a roll, I think I can do it for $50 a coin - the coins sell for 100+. I figure I could make approx $25 per 69, and if I hit a 70, fantastic.
So you dont' think it's worth it, huh? >>
Inspect the coins first. As another poster said, discard (I dont mean throw them away, lol) the spotted eagles, if there are any. I would disagree that most are spotted. Here in the southwest, I've been very lucky with my eagles not spotting, and I've opened quite a few mint rolls of all years that were gem brilliant. The 96's and 91's are good years to get slabbed if you can find a 70. Just don't send them to PCGS.
PCGS will not give any uncirculated Silver Eagles an MS70 unless it's a proof, PR70. >>
Pcgs has graded 12 silver eagles in ms-70 as follows:86=3,88=1,95=1,97=3 and 98=4 this is according to the pop report.I have never seen one but I'd like to.
I would not Grade them or send them in with a min Grade of 69 or 70 most will be 68 did not mint them to good and send them across the street you will do better over there.
<< <i> if sent to P.C.G.S -1 point that put them right there.I sent in two Rolls and did not do to good will not do it any more. but that is just me >>

I'm just curious, if someone was going to buy a roll of eagles, wouldn't you want the coins simply for the bullion value. I still find it amazing that people pay premiums for average run of the mill slabbed bullion coins.
I prolly have at least two thousand silver eagles sitting in my SDB all in those plastic tubes. Most of these were purchased at silver priced between $6-$9. Now, if someone bot the same amount of eagles that I have and paid to have them slabbed, and assume that half got a 69 or better, who would be ahead at this point? Now, take into account selling them. I think I could sell my unslabbed rolls a lot quicker than individual slabbed coins.
I also have ton of silver rounds purchased around the same level; I realize these rounds are nothing but silver bullion.
I have said this before but I continue to buy modern gold comm's at melt or slightly below. IMO, the best value in the coin market.

In most recent years, 69s are not worth grading.
70s are what you are looking for.
No way to know what will be a 70 in a PCGS slab,
until PCGS grades it.
<< <i>If I were to buy a roll of eagles, what sort of grades can I figure on? is there an average # of 69's per roll?
Anyone? >>
If you are talking about bullion eagles, it's not worth it.

I should add, I am assuming these are 2007 silver eagles?

You will get a roll of spots ... Most of the good coins are gone
IMHO
<< <i>Expect a few 70 and 68. The rest 69. >>

1996 might be worth it, as long as you can be certain the roll hasn't already been picked through.
I had one graded recently and got a 69. From what I saw the 69s are going for around $130ish on ebay.

I see that NGC coins do fairly well price wise, according to completed auctions.
