I'm Ticked At NGC!!

Gripe on:

I think its time for a change to PCGS, but I dont know if the same thing happens with PCGS.

I submitted an order of 7 coins last month, and it was recieved in their system on 3/16. Their wait time for Economy at that point was 21 business days. That mark passed last week. I called them to ask what was up, and was told I will have my order by Tuesday the latest. When it didnt arrive, I was told by another person that the waiting time is 31 business days, and I am only up to 24. I told them that when I submitted it was only 21, and I was told that the wait time goes from the day the order was recieved. Now this person told me something different. Now according to them, I wont have my order until the first week of May! What in the world is up with NGC?

Does this happen with PCGS as well? I am seriously tired of NGC screwing around like this!

Coins taking a long time getting graded at PCGS? Nah, that never happens...

Your situation is one of the perils that can happen when you use the services of any grading company. NGC is being particularly slow with their Economy service turnaround at this moment, and since they, nor PCGS guarantee turnaround times so the best thing you can do is just to be patient. Use a faster turnaround tier if time is of the essence to you.

the 31 business day turnaround is not particularly long. Several years ago PCGS was at times taking upwards of four months to finish Economy orders while NGC Economy orders weren't being finished in less than 11 weeks. In the very recent past ANACS was known for flouting their guaranteed turnaround times, even taking as long as 4 weeks to finish up on a 2-Day order!

Just curious. You've never submitted to PCGS? Any particular reason why?

I'm sure that PCGS is thrilled to read this about their #1 competitor on their board.

AnkurJ, it happens all the time at both services, there is really nothing that can be done about it. Try to think about and do other things when your grades are coming down to the wire----it makes the experience a lot more pleasant----------------BigE

When I first started collecting coins, I picked up a lot of coins that were NGC (no particular reason, it just happened), so I signed up with them. But since then, I look for coins graded by PCGS rather than NGC. Frankly, I hate NGC's holders. So PCGS economy teir has just as long of a wait time? If not more? I know NGC is lenient with grading, but for vinatage coins that I plan to keep, it doesnt matter. Not only that, but I KNOW they get more respect than NGC holders.

    What say you?

Happens all the time. Leadtimes are fluid. Get used to it.

They aren't done until you get "Danny Mail" which is what we call the email from Danny Nunez letting you know your order has shipped.

Over the years, NGC has been very fair with me, so I'll tolerate them being busy. image

If you want speed, try ANACS economy!! They are lightning fast!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I've never submitted to NGC, but I can tell you that so far this year, PCGS seems MUCH faster than last year at both ECONOMY and MODERN submisions...

I have gotten faster and slower than expected orders from both PCGS and NGC. My current gripe with NGC is in their variety service. So far, out of the last five orders, three were screwed up. I paid for VAM attribution and had it on the forms for all of them. One came back without the designations. I had to call through the system, registered mail them back to Sarasota, wait for them to return, and didn't even get a voucher for the added expense and wait. (It was also way overdue in the first place.) The last one had my VAMs come back with attributions except one. The one they missed was so blantantly obvious. It was the one I put on the form and had every single marker nice and bold in high grade. At this point, I see no added value with that service. I can attribute my own coins. The registry ain't all that important. And I can send them to PCGS where Mike F will get them correct.

  • So as you approach the quoted wait time, they extend the time you must wait!

    Sounds like "Catch 22."

Sent mine on 2/28 and called the other day just to make sure they were there. In the grading room. I'm in no hurry, so not tore up.
  • I'm not sure what's going on!

Sent my PCGS, 8 coin freebie submission on 4/06 and got my graded coins back today!

Really... No joke... Just return postage/ins...
