The PCGS Grading Information Treasure Hunt

Hello,

I think many of you know what I mean. It is not the kind of treasure hunt they do over on the Metal Detecting Forum.

No, that's too easy!

I am talking about the 4-7 times a year one must do a 'PCGS Grading Information Treasure Hunt'.

For example, I am looking for an "Official" announcement from PCGS such as what, how, when, they will grade coins such as (for example) the GW Presidential Dollars First Day Coin Covers that is NOT buried in a Post that needs a TTT to bring the info to the surface.

The closest thing to what I seek is here:

A tiny Bit of Info that still produces confusion

A Pretty weak page isn't it?

I think it is, given that PCGS is part of a NASDAQ listed company that depends upon grading revenue.

I would prefer that someone point me to the information I seek on a REAL, PCGS web page that resembles my link above.

Perhaps I am asking too much to have info pertaining to new coin issues and the type of grading that will be offered placed on one convenient web page that says "Submittal Information for New Coin Issues"?

Anything other than a thread would be great....

Thanks in advance!

I give it a B+. Not bad as rants go.

In situation like this, it's best to heed Homer's sagacious advice to Bart when he was down: "Give up, boy"

    Seriously, call cust service tomorrow
    Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."

  • I am interested in the same.... from both PCGS & NGC
As I have never had a coin graded & slabbed before I tried to find out (A) the cost & (B) the correct designation - for GW "error" coins... no luck, no clue, I don't even know what half the things they have in their lists mean (because I've never dealth with slabbed coins, at all).

So, I live in the same city as NGC, and decided to ask them... the address is a Post Office box. I call customer service and speak to a very nice (and trying to be helpful) girl... I ask about what errors/varieties are designate-able(?) on the new GW dollar coins as I can't find a listing on their website. The answer was a long list of things that left me confused (I think she read off every error/variety/vam of every coin possible)... So, I go to the friendly "authorized dealer" who is supposed to help you decide what may be worth having graded - but he doesn't have a clue about anything except grades - period.
