What do you mean gold eagles are too expensive? The mint buys bullion at spot, makes the coins, and sells them for a premium. Nothing is too expensive so long as there are buyers on the other end. The 1 ounce bullion coin is standard size, so no they won't be changing the 1 ounce coin. It would eliminate it's desirability--it currently competes with krugerrands, maples, and other government issued gold of the exact same weight. From a bullion standpoint, the fractionals have always been bad buys.

While I'm as big of a fan of weird denominations and sizes as anybody, it seems to me that if you wanted 3/4 oz of gold, you could just as easily get a 1/2 and a 1/4 ounce eagle.

I'd rather see some extremes at the ends -- a 1/20 ounce, and a 2 ounce gold eagle. That'd be kinda neat...

I think 3 (Pi)/4 would be a good round number since this is the inverse volume of a sphere of radius 1....3/4 oz is so...arbitrary...

If that were the case then they would discontinue the Platinum series.

They should make some commemorative 3 cents pieces in silver. Seems anything new is hot for a while at least.
Witty sig line currently under construction. Thank you for your patience.
