Is there any premium for an 1807 "footless F" Capped Bust Half?

I am pretty sure I found one, Breen 4594 lists it as "very rare" . Any info from the experts appreciated!-------------------BigE

There are two things to keep in mind here. The first is that Breen wrote that quite a few issues were "very rare" when indeed they appear to be substantially more common than he predicted. The second is that for the 1807 DBH there are three Overton varieties that have an F as you describe and none of these are rare.

Thanks Tom, the preliminary grade is showing this as O-108. Is it a common coin? ------------------------------BigE

The 1807 O.108 is a Draped Bust half, not a Capped Bust half, as mentioned in the thread, so I will assume that you originally meant it was a DBH. This is an R3, which is one of the more common die marriages in this series.

The reason that three 1807 varieties have a "footless F" (all use the same rev die) is that it was not made in 1807, it is from an 1806 reverse die used on 1806 O.117, and 1806 O.121, then used again in 1807. The broken F punch was replaced in 1807.
