I did say I was not going to respond again until I had the coin in hand, but some of your questions require immediate action:
<< <i>Besides my previous question (1 of 2, or this will be the 3rd), is it coin in general, or a condition rarity - 2 known to exist in mint state for example? >>
2 known means 2 known. It doesn't mean 3 known (or 4 known, for that matter). For the avoidance of confusion, it also doesn't mean 5 known. Nor does it mean 653 known, but only 2 of which are particular grade.
<< <i>Its probably not a coin a lot of people collect anyway. >>
What tipped you off? Was it that there are only 2 known?
<< <i>Pssst. CCU just PMed me. You'll never believe what the secret coin is. >>
I hereby authorize RYK to reveal the coin information that I PM'd to him.
<< <i>I received an email today from a collector offering us a coin of which there are 2 known
Its probably not a coin a lot of people collect anyway. >>
Probably some obscure variety of colonial coin that most collecotors could care less about anyway.

Now that's a lot different than 2 known for all grades and conditions. I orig thought this was gonna be a coin with just 2 known period.

The coin was messydesk's 2007-D George Washington FDI with no edge lettering of which only 2 are known in a MS65 and only 1 finer in MS66 out of a population of 3 total graded.

I just offered the collector additional $10 over your offer plus a grande decaf soy milk latte for the coin, and he accepted my offer. I am not sure that you will be getting it now. Sorry.
Just because there are only 2 slabbed, doesn't mean that there are only 2 known. Most collectors of that series don't get them slabbed and rarely discuss their holdings outside of their clubs ... in fact, I personally have seen at least 47 examples of that coin, several of which are much nicer than the one offered to you.

....yeah, I know what you mean. I always have a problem with flammable and inflammable. Another is "compare" and its adjective "comparable", or "incomparable". Its just like "repair" and "repairable", and "irrepairable". My favorite is "spectrascope" and "spectroscopy", sorta makes your tongue feel "funny". This is as on topic as the original post, no?
Okay Dave, or John or whomever, I just fought this brute of a northeaster to get from Dallas to Newark! As usual, I rushed to the PCGS forum, and found your torturous thread. So what is this super coin that I can't afford anyway

This reminds me of the directions for the holy hand grenade in the holy grail movie. "O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits, in Thy mercy." And the Lord did grin and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats and large chu... [Whereupon the friar is urged, "skip a bit, brother"]... And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it." Amen.

I was at a dealers a few weeks back and they got a call along the same lines. I overheard one of the employees tell the caller about 3 or 4 times that there were only two known to exist. But, if the caller would bring it in they would tell him what he had!
