Barber Half Collectors - the BCCS needs your help

The BCCS (Barber Coin Collectors Society) is currently running 2 surveys, which when completed, will offer the Barber half collector a much more realistic Scarcity Ratings Survey, than what is currently being offered on the BCCS website. The current BCCS Rarity Ratings Survey, for Barber halves, is over 10 years old......an updated version is desperately needed. The survey is open to both BCCS members and non BCCS members.

The first survey will be asking the participant for basically an inventory of their current Barber half holdings. Information such as dates, grades, # of coins owned in each date and grade, will be asked. The second survey will ask the participant to rate specific (not every date will be included here) Barber half dates for scarcity. A Scarcity Ratings chart, which rates coins on a scale of R1 (common) thru R8 (Unique, or nearly so), will be used for the survey.

I would like to thank everyone in advance, all those Barber half collectors, who take part in the BCCS surveys. The information gathered in these surveys will go a long way in establishing a true Rarity Ratings Survey for the coins we love. The deadline for the surveys is April 15, 2007.

    Dan,

    You know I'll take the survey, however the cut off date is just around the corner;
wouldn't the end of April have been a more convenient date time frame,
considering the currently outdated survey is already ten years old ? What's
wrong with a couple of extra weeks ? The more collectors who participate,
the more accurate this survey will be, IMHO.

That would have given collectors a little more breathing room in getting
this information compiled. Just taking the survey for the Quarter Dollars
was very time consuming. I assume the Half Dollar survey will be just
    as encompassing.

I put in all of my coins within a week of the survey being out.

Anyone know how many people have placed their collections on it?

Took the half survey a couple of months ago. As I recall, I rated the 05-0 the toughest in vf -R-6.
    We're all born MS70. I'm about a Fine 15 right now.
  • It took me less than fifteen minutes to do both the census and rarity surveys using the online forms. I only have about 40 so it was pretty easy.

  • Sorry for the short notice guys.......I figured better late than never. I posted a similar thread last year for the Barber quarter surveys, but forgot to post one this year for the halves.....until now. The BCCS Barber half surveys have been open for months now, but I'm making a push for the home stretch now (April 15th deadline).

    Just completed the two surveys.

Remember : You don't have to be a member to participate; nor are you required to complete both the POP survey and the Rarity survey.

Two more weeks and the BCCS survey will close.

Unfortunately, surveys such as this are likely to be of very limited value. Individuals have been hoarding selected dates/conditions of Barber Halves for many years. How many of the hoarders do you think are going to reveal their hoards?
    All glory is fleeting.
