Ebay delists my auction for using "Proof Like" in my title

Never have I been so angry at them. They claim it is key word spamming. I need to work on controlling my anger.

  • I've got to take all the pictures over again, since they delist the item and don't let you save the pictures. It is a Morgan that is semi proof like. So in the title I put "Semi Proof Like." They claim the word "Like" is not allowed.

I'll list it as one word this time.

No one ever accused the bay of having it on the ball.

Likely someone reported your auction - the employess of the bay are proud of the fact that they don't have enough knowledge to pass judgment on anything unless it is brought to their attention.

Prooflike is a legitimate term as is the term semi-prooflike.
Prooflike: "Term to designate a coin that has mirror-like surfaces, the term
especially applicable to Morgan Dollars. Those Morgan Dollars that meet
PCGS prooflike standards are designated PL"

Think that is absurd? In the last 3 weeks, eBay has also ended many of my auctions because I had the phrase under payment options in my description: "money orders and cash usually ship within 24 hours." I actually had to download (turbolister) all of my listings, export them into excel, write a script in VB to remove carriage returns (I couldn't do a search and replace in a cell with carriage returns), re-import them into turbolister, upload them back into eBay and delete the old listings as when I uploaded them it put new listings instead of updating the old ones. It cost me about $170 in listing fees which our account manager credited back to our account.

I thought the BS was over until yesterday when...

T&S called me to tell me that they were removing MORE listings because I had a phone number 800-440-8334 included in my payment instructions. It was in there as "If you have any questions regarding payment, please call me at 800-440-8334."

So now again today, I must repeat the process mentioned above to fix these listings. I had the guy at T&S look over my listings to see if anything else was against "policy" and he told me everything else was in-line. We'll see.....

eBay is really starting to piss me off.

Poorguy - I see that you have a phone number listed for anaconda in your sig line, I am going to have to ask that you remove it or suffer the wrath of account expulsion - post haste! Hey but seriously it sounds like you are dealing with an official 'eBay scam'.

It's people like you who drive away folks from this site with your condescending comments. Just offer the information without being such an a$$. Not everybody knows how to host their own pictures. Why don't you go into detail and tell him how to do it? Yeah, too much work. It's much easier to throw around disgraceful comments.

ebay is so full of crap that Legend refuses to list there any more. Their heavy handed actions drive legitimate sellers away while they continue to allow rip off artists to sell their fake garbage.

Take a look at the trade dollar section sometime and try to pick out the legit coins from all the fakes! image

  • TDN, I agree with you 100%. The quality of coins/sellers on eBay has been deteriorating rapidly. As business model, eBay’s moves make no sense. A dealer like Legend will be around for a long time (i.e. a long, stable cash flow) and the scam artists will only exist for months (if that). And who knows if they will even pay their eBay fees.

You can find deals on the 'bay but you have to muddle through a ton of garbage.

Not that my comments matter, but I agree 100% with poorguy on this. I usually won't get involved with the infighting that I see go on, but this is an obvious one on who is wrong here. Hopefully you do the right thing and apologize to KingOfCoins, otherwise you will prove yourself to be nothing more than the imageimage your post makes you out to be.

Yes - what I meant by my statement is that ebay's policies are full of crap ... not that the site is full of crap. Although in certain sections it certainly seems that way!

Yup. They wanted her drivers license number among other things. She didn't feel comfortable giving out this info and I agree with her.

They need to cancel those as well, since the letters on the upside are not made of down. Perhaps it's time to start reporting them.

Perhaps if they hired a genuine coin expert or two with some of their billions in profit, situations like the OPs would stop happening. I don't know what could've been done to avoid Legend's situation. That was just insane.

Legend's situation was what every high $$ seller must go through to maintain an account with eBay. We had to provide the same info that Legend had to provide to eBay but made well sure we were speaking directly with eBay when we provided it. It wasn't a big deal really but their objective policies are very obtuse and they make it difficult for legitimate sellers to do good business there while opening the doors for hijackers and scammers. I can't imagine that anybody on the eBay T&S team that covers the Coins category knows anything about coins or how to detect obvious counterfeits and image manipulation. If they do, then they are ignoring the obvious problems that exist there.

eBay once nuked one of my auctions for keyword spamming because I used the word "keys" in the title. They said I wasn't selling keys, I was selling coins. It was part of the phrase "no keys found." The real deal was that I was running a spoof slamming the slimeballs who sell "unsearched" hoards and said slimeballs wore out the "report this auction" link.

I simply turned right around and relisted it, changing it to "no key dates" found.
