Wow.......a very select group of coins in excellent grades! Were they able to get the pedigree? Also.....of the coins that were bodybagged, are any of them coins that should be resubmitted to possibly get into a holder the second time around?

We sent what we considered the most valuable coins or the coins that had the most to gain if they graded out at a higher grade then what our Grandfather had graded them.
Most of his coins had a grade but since he passed away in 1969, his grading system was different than what is used today. He has just UNC not ms60 and up.
None of the coins from the King Farouk auction were graded by Grandpa, they are just in 3 grey plastic cases. These are flying eagles 1856-1858, all the Indians 1859-1909 and Lincolns till 1938.I have tried to contact PCGS a couple of times about what we should do to get the King Farouk pedegree but I have had no luck whatsoever. They have not reponded to my emails. So I pretty much gave up. The collection will be divided 3 ways next week. Then maybe i /we can concentrate on trying once again to find out from PCGS what we need to do.
We also have a complete book of the commemoritives. (.25 Isable all the halves and the 1900 $1 Laffayette .) It would be good to have them slabbed but would they qualify for the bulk rate?
If anyone here has an inside track to someone in the know with PCGS maybe you could point them in my direction.
Once these are divided, I am sure many more coins will be sent. We were just trying to get the most valuable out of the way so we could divide it up.
That sounds like a neat collection. I suspect PCGS would be interested in pedigreeing them to Farouk if you have proper documentation. Try sending a PM to Homerunhall and/or Coinking and linking them to the thread or providing details of the collection. If that doesn't work, you should work with a PCGS authorized dealer in your area to assist with having them graded and pedigreed. Do not give up on the pedigree. This is an area where you will be rewarded for your diligence.
I sent an email to PCGS about getting the Farouk pedigree, here is the response.
FROM PCGS: Thank you for contacting PCGS Customer Service. We regret to inform you we cannot offer the Pedigree with the information/evidence provided. Without photographic evidence, there is no way to tie these coins to either B. Max Mehl or King Farouk. We have the same problem with coins from the Farouk Sale itself because of the poorly illustrated catalog.
Here is part of the receipt and a letter from Max Mehl.

Maybe you should think about consigning them to an auction house or a dealer.
