Opinions on grading - update to a recently posted thread- open to discussion, trying to understand g
Just the other day I showed you all 4 coins that I feel are accurately graded. With this in mind, I am somewhat perplexed by the following ......
but first.....
Remember this?

We all pretty much agreed that it's a beautiful coin and after much discussion we finally agreed that the grade is in fact technically correct.
With this still fresh in our memories, using the coin shown above, what then would you all say this coin grades?

What would you think the following grades, with ALL things being equal?
An exercise in screening coins for grading and open for discussion without malice or the need for flaming ANYONE.
I'm STILL trying to get a handle on all this after all these years.
The 55-D, 57-D and 62-D are all PCGS 65. They ALL blow the 46 away. Meanwhile the 50-S, that is of the same caliber as these other 3, is a PCGS 66. I must say that I am thorouhly confused by this!
<< <i>I don't know what to think.
Oh I think you do
<< <i>I'll take the 5th on that one.
Fair enough. I like the 5th as well sometimes.
Come pick me up boomie baby....

There will be times when they are lumped together, and other times they'll be separated. The same anomoly exists in most other series as well. And once that low end coin gets the bump, it remains in that holder forever...or until an across the series 1 pt bump occurs over many years.
If the TPG's graded with 95-100% accuracy there would be very little opportunity for collectors to cherry pick dealers.

speaking of Sunday, what a glorious day... er, I mean, COIN or two that you've posted.
I'm mostly writing because this thread might help professional graders/ coin dealers/ serious collectors and novices alike....all understand that it isn't just because of a coin's looks or strike that it grades high or low. We also must consider things like "POPULATIONS", "DIES", WEAK STRIKES, and EYE APPEAL...etc.... Then, consider the graders who see them. Of the hundreds of thousands of coins being submitted, sometimes a few fall through the cracks. (I don't know the retention rate of this occupation).
No one is perfect and neither is any system. I don't know all the ins and outs of the grading room or the politics of such, but...
These are really nice Mint State coins you've opened the thread with. Somewhere between MS63 and MS66, collectively

p.s. this is mostly for the bump ! Great attempt at open dialogue.
