1861 english half cent repunched 6???

Here is a rather ugly 1861 half cent. The thing that caught my eye is the six appears to be repunched. Is this commonly encountered on english coppers

It does look like a repunched six and not a "6 over 8," but since I've not seen an example of the well known (and rare) overstrike, I'm not sure.

The last value I saw for a 6 over 8 is £1,000 in fine. These overstrikes are documented in Freeman as found on 7+G and 5+E die pairs. You definitely have a reverse E (note the faint but readable "W" in the incuse LCW signature above the date), but I'm not able to ID the obverse. as yet.

Oh, and to be a bit of a nudge, the Brits don't call them "half cents" but "halfpennies."

Yours is a Obverse 5, Reverse E....

When I contacted Michael Freeman regarding a 6/6 (I have a few DIFFERENT types), he informed me that his original notes indicated EITHER 6/6 or 6/8, he wasn't sure as he had only lower grade specimens to work with.

You can see how the 6 over higher 6 could be confused for a 6/8 (I have one similar for an F-276 also)

These are just 2 types of 6/6 for the Obverse 5 and Reverse E combination....

I have a few more of other dies pairings......
