Just curious......... who in forum land collects 1950-70 Cameo Proof and SMS coins.............

.......... to either:
1. keep as part of your collection and/or;
2. flip to make money.
For those who do collect these coins, what is it about them that makes you want to collect them
For me, I collect them for my collection and for resale. I like collecting them because:
1. I remember collecting proof sets as a kid in the early 1960's;
2. The coins in the sets (especially the wheaties and silver coins) are those I grew up with;
3. Cameo and DCAM examples of these coins are very beautiful;
4. These coins are fun to hunt for (they are hard to find, but not impossible to find, thus you get rewarded from time to time when you find a winner); and
5. Maybe, just maybe, I will break even or profit on these coins when I sell.

i can only imagine the smile it brings when you see "you made cam" at least but the excitement of those deep/ultra.
i myself am collecting to leave my kids something of value even if it's the eye appeal only.
some of the best gambling in vegas i see it in buying raw or even graded bargins that pop.
although some i find i way over paid for but it's a learning curve i go through

Edited to join in the picture posting fun:
Here are what few pictures I have uploaded; I don't have any of my better coins or newest ones because I have not photographed a coin since the summer. Over the last two weekendsI picked up a possible (the fields might not be good enough) DCAM 1967 SMS 50c ~MS68, a CAM 1965 SMS 5c ~MS66+, a possible CAM 1965 SMS 10c ~MS68+++, a CAM+ 1967 5c ~MS67, 1966 No FG 50c, and finally a CAM 1967 SMS 25c ~MS68. It was a good spring break : D.

I love the hunt of finding them in CAM/DCAM. I have had a lot of luck lately but I have much to learn of this series...especially the SMS sets. There are so many varieties in each year.
I also look to this board for an education in learning more about them.
I have a few cameo Lincolns from this era. My original goal was to put together the 50-58 cameo set, but I've not actively tried to finish this set in several years.
For those who have replied yes, do any of you (besides Skyman and moi) reside in Northern California?
If you do, would you have any interest in meeting at the Santa Clara show (or other Nor Cal. shows coming up this year)?
Sorry SanctionII, I would meet ya but I live in Indiana.
I realize this is 12 years too early, but for those that like cameos I will be bringing this to Santa Clara:

You and Sanction are making me homesick. I used to live in the Santa Cruz mountains and attended all the Santa Clara and San Jose shows. Wish I could be there!
FWIW, I have a nice collection of cameo/deep cam proof Washingtons in my registry set.
I also have a '67 SMS 67DCam Washie and a '64 PR67CAM AH Kennedy because they're cool.
As I've progressed I've moved on into the older cam stuff, but tend to look for old luster over mirrors in general, along with big over small.

i've had some real success in the past several months, since probably Thanksgiving. i managed to find quite a few Gems of all denominations. initially i was selling some of the best stuff to offset the prices of the Sets, but i recently decided to assemble a run of Proof/SMS Sets from 1950-1972 in Capital Holders. last November i purchased a 1950 Set that yielded a PF66CAM Lincoln, a PR65CAM Jefferson, a PR65 Half-Dollar and a Quarter that would probably grade PR67. i don't know whether it was a put together set or not but i felt fortunate to find it.
i've also managed to put back Quarters with Cameo/Deep Cameo surfaces for most years from 1953-1964 and have found some nice SMS coins, also. i started grabbing all the toned Dimes i could find with the intention of submitting a complete set from 1950-1964 but abandoned the idea when i decided to go the Capital route. i'll try to post some pictures if i can find the right CD.
