...scanned this for a friend from the Brobston sale book and made me curious - Copper Quotes says various undertypes exist - what does this mean? Thank you.

The undertype notes the host coinage on which the piece was overstruck. Seems like the early half cents were commonly struck on cut down large cents, TAL tokens, and such. The Little Half Sisters seemed to get all the hand-me-downs...
Practically all were struck on cut down planchets of large cents, Mass half cents, and other coins.
Of course it doesn't make it completely clear that the planchets were cut from struck coins and not cut from planchets for those other coins.
Most of these are on spoiled large cents. I have never seen or heard of one on a Mass half cent and suspect that none like that exist.
