Copper colonial nugget for the weekend: Colonial Collectors Union's beautiful CT coin below is an choice of the "AUCTOPI" variety. The 'R' of the word "AUCTORI" (Latin='by authority of'), is defective producing the misspelling:

    image

Here's a different variant, a "CONNFC" type where CONNEC, the abbreviation for Connecticut, is defective and produces a misspelling. Neither the coin, nor the photography appoaches CCU's, but I'm doing my best...

By the way, I'm a fan of TrueView PCGS photo service, but am I the only one that likes LeeG's pictures better (the first photos at the top of this thread)?

Lee's pictures make the coin look more real- like it would look in hand while PCGS's photos look a bit cartoonish.

I picked this up at the Bay State Coin Show yesterday: an EF 1866-M 10c (it's a big copper, 30mm). It's an unpretentious coin, but it has high quality surfaces, even wear, and wonderful chocolate-brown color. How can you beat 141 year-old copper in this condition for $7.00?

Result just in today Submission received 3-27-07 Posted today SUPERFAST turnaround on the submission this time. The 36P was originally ICG 67 RED nicest example I've seen for this date.
The 1909 bought raw for $24 thought maybe a matte Proof but will take the MS65RB must be
one of the first 1909 from a VDB Die as you can still see the faint outline of the VDB on the Bottom
of the reverse. The 1930 was originally a ICG 65 as well was hoping for a possiblity of a 66 Very
nice original mint Fresh strike. Submission # 3483726, had some roosie disappointments on the
    submission. Mike.

Excuse the horrible scan as the coin is not as dark as it looks and it has excellent surfaces, but I just returned from the Fremont Show about 15 minutes ago where I picked up this copper slug from John McIntosh ... it is in a NGC holder, but I am sure that it will cross image

Good morning Lee. Nice coins. Here's a new one:
    image
    image
  • Here's another 1916. It's in a RD holder, but I think there's too much toning on the reverse (that I can't image) to technically qualify it for anything other than a RB.
