This may have turned in the holder after a bad dip. I've seen plenty of fugly PCGS 69s that turned in the holder, too.

I'm not saying that this coin would be a 69 without the spotting, but I doubt it entered the holder looking like this.

True, but isn't that the point of the Intercept Shield?

I'm positive the seller put insane reserves on them. They'll go unsold.

Both of those coins are dogs in a holder that gets no respect in the cameo world.

Did you see what the bids are at? $650 on the first and $700 on the second!! My guess is that they will go unsold. IMHO they are worth less than $50 each.

  • ...I see far , far too many high grade proofs that look like thev`e beenlying in a gutter somewhere .........

I think a very significent amount of these coins "turn" in the holders because of the unscrupulous/uneducated/inexperienced

cleanings that take place prior to encapsulation .

The spots and streaks are on the outside of the holder not the coin.

    I sincerely doubt it.

Some of them clearly are on the holder (you can see some spots and scratches and their shadow). But some of these look like spotting which comes from a bad dip.

    Ohhh - they didn't sell - not a surprise.

And I firmly believe that the holders are in tough shape, and there is quite a bit of spotting on the coins.

Lets look for them to be recycled into another TT auction in a couple of weeks.

  • Smoebody buy them and send them to me. I'll check to see if that is Cammies' DNA on there.

I'm not sure about what's on the coin and what's on the holder, way too hard for me to tell from those photos.

What I do know though, is that ICG slabs do not hold up very well at all. Scratches, smudges, scrapes and ticks seem to form all too easily.
Really hurts images of the coins.
