Morgan vam guys, is this anything special?

WeissWeiss Posts: 9,942 ✭✭✭✭✭
Bigdave's post about the 7/8 king vam got me to whip out my OGH 7/8 weak. It's not a 44(?), but it does have a few interesting things that don't seem to be present on my non '78 morgans.

Is this extra globule (looks almost like a talon) anything special on a 1878 7/8 tf weak, is it a diagnostic for another vam, or is it just the way the '78s were?

Liberty also seems to have some kind of cool ghostly fangs jutting from her jaws. I'll try to capture an image tomorrow. image

Your coin is VAM 33 (massively doubled legs)... the most common of all 7/8 Weak varieties. The exciting thing about it is, it's the identical reverse used on the VAM 44 "King of VAMs"

And from your description of Liberty's "fangs" it would seem yours is one of the die-clashed versions with heavy clashing at the lips/mouth/chin.
    When in doubt, don't.

B/Ad reverse. That is the one BOTH VAM-33 and VAM-44 share. The fangs are probably clashes and you likely have a VAM-33A.

    Thanks DennisH & Coxe.

Here's a close-up of the "fangs". You can just see the whisp of one on her upper lip, but the ones on the lower lip and her chin are especially pronounced.

    FWIW, it's a PCGS MS62 in a rattler slab.

Looks like 33A to me. Look for an inverted clashed lower case n below the clash line at Liberty's jaw.
