Hope I do this right.
I am a new to the forum and happy to be here!

First post and question: 1878-S Morgan

Should I grade this?
What grade would you give it?

I'm not an expert on Morgans, but it's really hard to grade from those pics. I really have no idea.

Tough to grade from the pics, abit fuzzy, but not bad. What are u using for a camera, i.e. macro setting, lighting, etc......
This is what I consider a 64 coin, it's an opinion, that I believe is right on.
Welcome to the boards, there is a wealth of info here.
Buy the coin, not the plastic.

Never had success scanning a coin, a digital camera is a must

It's common date crap, as some people might say, which it is, 16+ million minted.
I like it for the golden toning, around the rim.

The scans of your coin appear to be an AU58 in grade... which means it is about a $30-ish coin (and grading would cost at least $18).

It's hard to know if there is any rub from those pics, and the issue of luster is completely unknown- it looks like it could be anywhere from a run of the mill au58 to a semi-prooflike ms64. Better pics will bring out better guesses...

With the great photogs here on the boards you will have to learn to take pics and forget the scanner. Lot's of very helpful folks here on the forums.

I have some great pics of my coins. Of course I am in Texas and the camera used to take my coin images is in Oregon, so all of my coins go up there.

Uh, I think that figure is just under ten million minted. As for the coins, it's hard to judge from the images but it doesn't appear to justify the submission price for grading. . .

OK, I have a Fugi S-5000. Do you think this would be adequate or should I get something else?

To much junk on the from for MS. The AU 58 is a little high as well, but AU yes. Worth about $20. I consider that being way ahead of the game, as it does not look dipped or problematic.

Maybe the architecture and fine arts background comes in handy..............

I will keep on scanning until I get good with the camera. Do you need any other attachment for the camera to take photo's?
