Looks quite a bit like strike doubling and not die doubling. The seller might not realize it too. I believe there are very minor DDOs known for this date but a specialist in the series will surely chime in on that.

The fact that the Mint mark is doubled along with everything else virtually eliminates any chance of it being a "double" die. The correct term is doubled die and this one ain't-it's machine doubled. And a starting bid at $1000? What a scam!
  • I'm not so sure that it's a scam, rater than a seller who dosen't know the difference between strike doubling and die doubling. I mean they are paying postage and offer an unconditional return policy.

These are quite common with machine doubling - I bought a few myself for the same price as a regular set.

I don't know what to think of the seller.

I've sold a couple of ANACS Die #1's (the MOST valuable of the known DDO's for the date - although I think die#3 is close on value - ask Mozeppa) in the $100 range over the last few years in MS65RD or so.

    BTW, there's only TWO CONECA recognized NON-proof DDO's for the date - i.e. die #'s 1 & 3.

The seller in question is a total scam artist (didn't even bother to get it certified). image

    Correct Roger!

I do have die #1 but not Die #3....still looking.

contrary to popular belief ....you can have strike doubling on the mintmark ....and yes it can still be a doubled die.

If the moment that strike doubling occurs and there is a true doubled die in the press being used ...then yes ....both type of doublings can be manifested on the same coin.
