Half Dollar Question

While searching through half-dollar rolls today, I found a colorized 2003-D half-dollar (apparently some memorial to the space shuttle Columbia), as well as a proof 1776-1976-S half dollar in excellent condition. Does anyone have any idea if either of them is worth anything more than 50 cents?

The colorized one might be worth a couple bucks as a novelty. If the proof bicen is the silver version it's worth the silver content. If clad, maybe a buck.

The 2007 Kennedy Half Dollars are available friday! Are they worth the mark-up you have to pay for the rolls? I believe they are only making 2 or 3 million per mint?

Judging by how often I find post-2001 halves in circulation, I would say not. Just keep your eyes open, and you'll eventually find them for face value. The markup is ridiculous; they're really only worth fifty cents apiece. Just two months or so ago I found two BU 2006-D half-dollars in a bank-wrapped roll (which will be your best bet). Proof coins are sometimes obtainable for face value as well; besides the one that I found today, I have come across a 2003-S Sacagawea, and two 1986-S half dollars.
