Tough call on this one. The coin appears to be XF-45 or AU-50 and probably original. Unfortunately, the toning is not particularly eye-appealing. I think the starting price of $150 seems a bit high. Wait and see if anyone else bites.

Wouldn't touch it. I stay away from auctions where the starting price and buy it now price are not very far apart. It basically sets the seller up for either a decent profit or a fat one. The coin has to make AU50 to be worth going after and it's probably more like XF45.....the seller knows this. The chances of getting an AU50 coin are not in your favor. At least the seller has 99.9% FB but even that would not persuade me.

You could probably find a similar coin for $75-$125 with a little bit of searching. This type is very common and not hard to find nice.
Many local dealers don't believe in the AU grade unless a coin is bursting with luster, hence you can find AU50 coins for XF money.

Try elsewhere and be patient. Even with a return priv as this one offers, you tie up your money for weeks, and end up paying postage both ways. The coin is raw to boot.

1854 Arrows and 1853 A&R quarters are dirt common in circ. No one should jump on the first one unless it's an eye-popper. The 1853 A&R 25c brings a nice premium as a type coin, yet as a date it is by far the most common seated quarter surviving today.

As a rule --- I will not buy from this seller. I had one very troubling transaction with him several years ago.

Also...IMO all his coins are overpriced, overgraded and/or problem coins.
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

From the standpoint of wear, it's AU, but you can find nicer without much effort.

Looks like an XF45, if it has luster AU50.

The 1854 is so common, you don't have to settle for road kill.
