Tough to be sure from your pics. I'd go with 80% likely it has been cleaned. At the very least it has been dipped.

Don't get hung up on "cleaned" (meaning "harshly cleaned"). There are posts here that make it sound like a cleaned coin should be buried in a nuclear waste repository. But if you can't tell without posting a poll, then does it really matter? The coin has some scratches but unless a coin is UNC, then it may have been exposed to all kinds of stuff in the C part of NOT UNC. scratches are normal. Parallel hairline scratches set off the "Dump it in the trash" alarm around here but shouldn't.

I have some harshly cleaned coins that look great except under high magnification and for the price I paid I am very happy with them.

Edited to add that since you didn't say "harshly cleaned" I'm sure some forum members are going to vote for cleaned when they really mean dipped.

I think it's been cleaned at some point, yes... That one has some cool die breaks on the obverse!

Looks highly likely to be dipped, but I dont see much evidence of an abrasive cleaning - so I vote not cleaned ( Had to vote nice original, but I dont think its that)

Cleaned. (guessing that because of the ANACS holder)

Looking to buy Morgans in ACG, INS, IGA, Old PCI photo, and Hannes Tulving holders.

Lightly cleaned and dipped but retoning can restore her to a more natural look especially in that AU grade.

    Cool obv. die cracks.

The coin is in a Anacs Holder as an AU55 Details Cleaned Holder. I don't own the coin (although I admit I'm trying image).
Cleaned or not, the coin has a great "look" to me and the obverse die cracks add a lot of character.
    Thanks for participating.

I voted original because I didn't see signs of whizzing, I see some tan toning near the top of the obverse, so I didn't think it had been dipped. How was it cleaned? I thought dipping was ok as long as you use acetone and thoroughly rinse it. I thought no one could tell. Man I gotta lot to learn.

Looks dipped but MAY holder at a top 4 TPG.

So may answer was 3, since it did not fit the other 2.

Not cleaned enough to keep it out of an NGC holder, IMO.
    When in doubt, don't.

COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MOREimage LIKE A 70 HEMI-CUDA WITH MISMATCHED NUMBERS OR A 58 LES PAUL WITH AN EXPERTLY RESTORED HEADSTOCK BREAK, YOU CAN STILL SHOW THE CAR AND STILL PLAY THE GUITAR. YEAH, THERES A HIGHER LEVEL, BUT THAT SHOULDN'T ELIMINATE THE JOY OF STUFF, SO LONG AS YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE GETTING UP FRONT.

Unnatural color for a 150 yr old coin. Abrasively cleaned at a bare minimum.

Too bad; Seated halves are classic, but that one won't make it's way into my collection.

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.
