Ebay Debacle Sunday Evening
I know from these forums yesterday a lot of people on ebay could not access their watch list on ebay yesterday. Although I did not have any items ending at that time, I do believe it seriously effected all items that were up for auction during that time peroid and I believe ebay should void a lot auctions if the sellers believe their auctions ended too low. I was watching a few auctions and emailed these sellers this fact because I believe their auctions ended way below market. Here is an example that I believe is what happened.Platinum 2006 W I emailed this seller to inform him of this. The problem occured around this time this auction ended but no quite sure how long it lasted.
So what's the consensus on these forums about what happened yesterday? Is it ebay's responsiblility to inform all sellers of what happened. This is for ebay's benefit also because they probably lost a lot of revenue from potential higher bids.
I am also sure a lot of ebayers were not aware of this problem since most other functions were not affected, though I am not sure if bidding was one of them since I did not bid on anything at that time.

I got creamed on my sales last night, left a grand or more on the table (all vams). I know of at least one snipe program (esnipe) that couldn't connect to eBay at a critical time. So his $600 snipe never happened, and the coin sold for $377.
I really doubt eBay is going to void any auctions, but...good thought!

I think system disruptions are one danger of closing auctions during the busiest times. I doubt Ebay will void results for what seems like a relatively minor service interruption. The auction in the original post had at least one sniper.
Another factor is the huge Baltimore show. Many dealers were still in transit, and were unable to bid as they would during a normal Sunday. Some collectors may have spent all their money and don't have any more for Ebay coins. This show is now the biggest one. Even if it takes 5% or 10% of the bidders out of the picture, that can explain many of the lower prices.
<< <i>I had one item for sale, and it closed around the same time as the auction in the original post. It closed on the low side, though at least one sniper bumped it up, and the price was within in the range of prices (a wide range) during the past week. I thought it might have been because of the overtime NCAA basketball game.

No, it was technical problems - one of the potential bidders was kind enough to share this with me:
eSnipe was instructed to connect to eBay 6 seconds before auction end

Thats just one of the risks that has to be accepted when dealing with EBay or any other online auction venue. The alternative for a seller whose item went for way too little money is to just not deliver and take the neg along with the bad reputation. Other than that, they are just SOL.

Was it a lunar thing or what ? Glitches in the system halted flights out of Minneapolis/St Paul last night, too.

Indeed. As much as sniping usually helps the seller, this is certainly a counterexample.

He who lives by the snipe dies by the snipe. I bid what I am willing to pay in a timely manner, and either get the item or do not get the item depending on what my three competitors in that field feel like paying that week. I do not miss items by being shut out at the betting window.

<< <i>So you put up a reserve or mininum bid you are willing to let the item go for is one way to protect against this. >>
That could be. One has to weigh a few factors, though. How often does this happen and how much is it likely to cost you when it does? And if it's true that starting at 1 cent with no reserve ultimately leads to higher bids, do these higher bids more than offset the occasional time you're screwed when eBay goes down in the last hour of your auction?
