What would you do? Ebay scenario

About three or four times a week we receive an email message from a winning ebay bidder that they made a bid by mistake (typed in wrong amount or their wife accidently bid for them, or they no longer have the money to purchase the item) and they no longer want the item that they won. When the gold and silver markets go down, we might have six or ten bidders in a week make this claim. I'm curious what the members of this board would do in such a situation.

1) Agree to not complete the transaction and go through the time to complete those steps and relist the item.
2) Follow ebay procedures and mark the item as being unpaid and risk getting Neg feedback as retribution.
3) Leave negative feedback (nobody wins)
4) Other.

  • In your next auction try typing in the description: DO NOT BID ON THIS ITEM UNLESS YOU INTEND TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION- They may still try to back out but, this way you have a better argument.

Remind them that they entered a binding legal agreement to buy your auction item.
If they refuse to pay, submit a non-paying bidder or whatever it's called to Ebay then throw them a big Neg.

I'm always amazed at how many relatives die and/or are rushed to the hospital coincident with winning bids.

That's interesting that the gold/silver market fluctuations produces more of these reneges. How about also saying something along those lines, like don't bid and expect to cancel just because of the markets. Maybe by telling the jerks you are on to them before they pull the trigger, you'll have less of this?
