Ebay sellers selling Plat Coins using false statements

What is up with all the schmucks giving false information about platinum coins in their listings? I would think that the buyers, who can afford expensive coins, will use at least a couple of brain cells to research and find out what it is exactly they are buying... LOL image What's up with that?

Here is an example on Ebay right now:

2004 $50 Platinum PCGS MS69. Ready for your Registry
Lowest plat. pop. half-ounce.& below PRICE REDUCED ! Item number: 280091932637

***** 2004 $50 (1/2 oz.) Platinum Stat. of Liberty *****

Graded a near-perfect MS69 by PCGS. Registry-ready!

Serious collector? New to Platinum? Working at building a Registry set?

Don't miss this opportunity to acquire this striking half-ounce platinum coin. Except for the full-ounce platinum Statue of Liberty,
this has the LOWEST POPULATION of ALL platinum coins, at 13,200 minted. Graded one below PERFECT by PCGS - the strickest

Huh! What is the lowest population? The 2004 proofs $50s?

I'm thinking the recent sale of "upside-down" Washington $1 "errors" at $100 each has inspired a new wave of eBay scammer auctions.

say it isn't so...ebay sellers making false statements? Next thing you know they will be schlepping coin store rejects as "estate sale" opportunities.
  • " Huh! What is the lowest population? The 2004 proofs $50s?"

In the proof series it still is. Overall it is the 2006-W UNC. $50.

    Are you sure? I see 280 MS70 2006Ws $50.00s-- I dunno what the MS69 2006W $50 population is.
    For PR69DCAM 2004 $50s, I see pops of 169/16.

    Kiyote,

    The mintages are as follows:

    2006 W $50 Unc Platinum MS - 2,650
    2006 W $25 Unc Platinum MS - 2,700
    2006 W $100 Unc Platinum MS - 3,100
    2006 W $10 Unc Platinum MS - 3,700
    2004 $50 Platinum Proof - 4,886
    2004 $25 Platinum Proof - 5,026

The ones the guy is selling on eBay are not even close to anything like that in mintage; are not the "Eagle over New England" as he describes; and, are not Reverse Proof...

What that guy is trying to sell is Platinum bullion. The lowest production year for Platinum bullion is 2006. The lowest production year for Uncirculated Burnished Platinum Bullion is 2006. The lowest production year for Platinum Proof Bullion is 2004...Every single claim that guy is making is a lie either by ignorance or convenience...
  • I wonder how many more he's going to list with the same graphics. 100's?

I'm aware of the mintages--- heck, the 1893-S Morgan had 100,000 minted! But the seller isn't touting mintages, he's touting pops...
