I hope it's legit but I would not have touched that auction for the reasons stated,

<< <i>isn't that Fletcher? >>
Yes I believe so.
Knowledge is the enemy of fear
<< <i>isn't that Fletcher? >>
Yup. I'd say about a 5% chance he gets the coin.
<< <i>How do you think the seller feels... It's probably still sitting in front of his computer with a deer in the headlights stare... WTF?
>>
lol....I can see that!
-Seller's account is two weeks old
-Seller's feedback is 6
-Seller's feedback is all from purchases of coins totaling less than $200
-Seller has never sold anything
-Seller does not accept paypal
-Seller's first coin to sell on ebay is a $7k Lincoln rarity....
Auction ends for $775.
Seller's costs to get feedback for account $200
Seller's net profit on this e-bay account .... $575. (Plus he has the six coins he bought in the other transactions)

If I had a $7000 coin sell for a $1000 on eBay? Hmmmmm.... Would I ship it. Hmmmmmm......There is integrity, and then there is stupid. Assume this guy is neither.
I could have sworn this coin was bid up well over two grand, and it was on eBay for more then one day.
Now I see that it ended at $7and change

<< <i>And a pretty bad scan too, could it be a poor mans double die? >>
Nope. PCGS does not slab the Poor Mans doubled die so the coin is legit. However, the seller does not look legit.
Considering the junk he's purchased based on his feedback, I think somebody's about to get burned.
<< <i>Now I see that it ended at $7and change >>
Don't you mean $700 and change? Still, it's a HUGE score if the auction is real.
<< <i>Alright, this one has me confused.

Look at the bid retraction and cancellation history. It shows that five bids ranging from $1800 to $6125 were cancelled because it was the "wrong bid." Something smells bad.

Eh, I was too lazy to scroll back up to see what it was exactly, hence, $7 and change. The hundred was implied

Of course, if this were a legitimate and trusted auction, *thousands* should have been implied.

<< <i>ccex - I agree on all of your points, but the cert # is valid and it's worth about $7,000 or so. So it goes for 1/10 of that?! Plus, the seller's from Indiana - all Hoosiers are honest, right!
Mike >>
yeah we are!
this guys from franklin Indiana15 minutes south of me...and i think he's legit!
also he if he goes thru with the auction he's lost his shirt.
<< <i>Hey ... whats all the hub bub? I would say that I have a less than 1 in 10 chance of receiving the coin. However, I have recevied communication from the seller already. I have informed him that I would be happy to send him a postal money order if he overnights the coin to an ANA coin dealer of his choice at my expense. If he responds, great ... if not, its a scam.
Well, you are trying to alter the terms of the deal after the fact. IMO, that's an eBay no-no. Had you done this and got an affirmative response *before* bidding, that would be another story.
<< <i>Your feedback rating....uhm...how can I say this nicely.....sucks. >>
Many people here do not post negs because they are afraid of retaliatory negs. I post a neg when it is deserved and have obviously been retaliated against a few of times. In all fairness though, I did deserve two of those negs

Either way, I will not lose anything on this deal and if I get the coin, I'll get my second official "You Suck" award. I realize that the odds are not in my favor, but I am not so jaded to think that EVERY good deal on eBay is a scam. Obviously, I'll keep the forum updated.
Smartly done. You can also use www.escrow.com....if he insists on the money...

Not according to my bestest friend in the whole world--- Laura.
<< <i>Why did the seller cancel all those higher bids?
The cancelled bids were likely schill bids placed to make the auction look legit.
and they're cold.

So Fletcher...whats your chances your going to get this now?
I certainly would not send funds in the mail.
Have the local contact pay cash and reward him/her with a $500 bonus.

<< <i>agreed, after reading the negs, your a sellers nightmare. >>
Yes, I was a nightmare for Darin who tried to rip me off like he did several other people on this forum and for the seller who used a picture of a very nice DCAM AH Kennedy in his auction and then sent me a crappy normal hair Kennedy. I'll be a nightmare for anyone who tries to screw me on Ebay. However, if you simply want to sit back and anonymously attempt to take cheap shots like that ... have at it!
And, it is "you're" ... not "your" and "seller's" not "sellers"
<< <i>Can we assume the deal never went thru? >>
Yes, I offered to have someone meet him with cash at the location of his choice in his city and he refused ... it was a scam. We all pretty much thought that it was so I am not disappointed. However, if it had been legit, it woud have made for one helluva "YOU SUCK!"

My pet-peeve too (not to) Fletch. It's (It is) amazing how many people get this wrong.
