1979 Type 2 Proof Sets questions
Did all of the 1979 Type 2 sets contain a clear ‘S’ on all denominations? Or was it possible to have a Type 2 SBA with a Type 1 Kennedy?
And I know most of the value is with the SBA, but what kind of money does an all clear
‘S’ set bring? (if it exists). And is this something that needs to be sent to the TPG?
Thanks everyone!

Type 1 and Type 2 can be mixed in together in the sets and usually are. Finding one with all Type 2 is rare and worth a small premium. 1979 Type 2 sets usually go for around $100.
Edited to add: They are a little more expensive than I thought.
The 81 has the bigger premium

Not true. The 1979 Type 1 is smudged, the 1979 Type 2 is clear, the 1981 Type 1 is clear (and looks similar to the 1979 Type 2), and the 1981 Type 2 is clear and look distinctly different from all of the other mintmarks.

The mintmarks seen are the result of different degrees of perfection in die manufacture.
The confusion and resulting scam is now in its 28th year.

Are you saying the mint mark is the exact same from '79 to '81, and only differs because of imperfections in the dies? I don't know about that one. The completely different shape of the '81 Type 2 leads me to believe otherwise.

It was MY understanding that the '79 had the blob and clear and '81 had two distinct clear s's One being a superman S
and one being a S with ends having small round feet. I think they distinct SEPARATE dies in 81
for the the current year and the 79 year. Nothing can be determined from the
MM that is globbed, but those that are filled or clear have many of the same attributes
as the 81 proof set.

If you are refering to the 79 Type 2, the 1980 and the 1981 type 1 I will agree. The 79 type 1 is very different from the type 2. The 1981 type 2 is also different from the type 1, but not nearly as obvious as the differences between the 79 type 1 and 2.
